Lucky Motors Limited (LML), a Younus Brothers Group’s company has signed an expression of interest (EoI) and a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Groupe PSA of France to assemble, manufacture, market and sell Peugeot branded passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in Pakistan.

As per reports Peugeot vehicles will be assembled at Lucky Motors automobile manufacturing facility at Bin Qasim Industrial Park, Karachi. LML is already engaged with the South Korean automaker Kia, with its Kia-Lucky Motors venture having already launched Grand Carnival luxury MPV and Frontier commercial pickup last year and is set to launch Sportage SUV and Picanto hatchback in Pakistan very soon.

CEO of LML Asif Rizvi while talking to Dawn revealed that the company has applied to the Board of Investment (BoI) for Category-A Greenfield investment status under the Auto Development Policy (ADP) 2016-21.

He said necessary definitive agreements with Groupe PSA are expected to be executed within the next two months. Asif Rizvi further added:

“Initially we have decided to assemble Peugeot cars which will be the first European car to arrive in the CKD category in the country. The new project involves an investment of about $15 million in jigs and fixtures and facility since the LML plant will be used for assembly of the European cars.”

According to Asif Rizvi, the introduction of Peugeot cars in Pakistan will give consumers an even wider range of options, through low volume production, besides intensifying competition among the existing and new players.

. . .
Peugeot ( and all French cars ) are truly truly horrible cars, poorly designed and have very low reliability and generally cheaply/poorly built. They are not designed for any length of car life at all...

Not sure about the quality of what is already in Pakistan, but the french stuff truly sucks, void. Stick with German, or Japanese !!!!

Not true, Peugeot is a very popular middle range brand in Europe. They are no worse than Toyota.

I dont know about reliability but i drove the 208 model a few months back.... back home in pakistan i have used a 1.0 vitz and a 1.3 swift for quite a while but 208 was by far more responsive than either of them. will be a good addition to the local car market.

I've owned 3 Peugeots....they are nothing special. Their engines are usually good but build quality is poor especially for the older gen cars such as the 407.

The newer ones seem to have upped their game though. I currently have a Honda and a skoda....Peugeot doesn't come close to the japs and germans.....

The only French cars probably worth buying were the quirky citroens however over the past 20 years or so they haven't come up with anything spectacular.

I know they aren’t up there with the BMWs/German brands but I have had a few and they did the job. They weren’t spectacular, but okay value for what you pay for.

In fact I had a VW for many years and that was the worst one despite its reputation.

Just to give you perspective. The previous generation MINI had a Peugeot/Citroen engine as BMW had not developed a smaller engine for front drive car which it now has for current model MINI.

Before or after Renault comes to market? Who will be buying all these cars?
