know story of other side as well , as COAS was telling him from May / June 2021 to Change DG ISI as intenal posting and transfer were due In Army , which Imran Khan ignored even after many meetings/ reminders . He dragged it on unnecessarily .

The Prime Minister's Office on Tuesday notified the appointment of Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum as the new chief of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). He will replace the incumbent Lt Gen Faiz Hameed from next month.
"The prime minister has seen and approved the appointment of ... Lt Gen Nadeem Ahmed Anjum ... as director general Inter-Services Intelligence, with effect from November 20, 2021, from the panel of officers at para 6 of the summary," a notification issued by the PMO dated October 26 said.
According to the notification, the incumbent ISI director general, Lt Gen Faiz Hameed, will continue to hold charge as the ISI chief till November 19, 2021.
Separately, the PMO in a series of tweets said Army Chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa had called on Prime Minister Imran earlier today.
"The meeting was part of the ongoing consultation process between the Prime Minister and Chief of Army Staff about the timing of change of command in ISI and selection of the new DG ISI," the statement added.
During the consultation process, "a list of officers was received from [the] Ministry of Defence" following which Prime Minister Imran "interviewed all the nominees", the PMO said, adding that a final round of consultation was held between the premier and the COAS today.
"After this detailed consultative process, name of Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum was approved as new DG ISI. The designate DG ISI shall assume charge on November 20, 2021."
Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum, who was commissioned in service in September 1988, earlier headed Corps V in Karachi.
Gen Anjum commanded a brigade in Kurram Agency, led Frontier Corps (North) in Balochistan and remained commandant of Command and Staff College Quetta before becoming corps commander Karachi in December 2020.
Deadlock
The appointment comes after nearly three weeks of an alleged standoff between the military and the government over the appointment of Pakistan's new spymaster. The army had announced on Oct 6 that the former ISI chief, Lt Gen Faiz Hameed, had been made the Peshawar corps commander, while Lt Gen Anjum was appointed in his place.
But the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) had not since issued an official notification of Lt Gen Anjum's appointment, leading to rumours about strains in civil-military relations.

After days of speculations, on Oct 12, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry had said that the authority to appoint the ISI chief lay with the prime minister, and that the set procedure would be followed for the purpose.
"The legal procedure will be followed in the appointment of the new DG ISI, for which both [Gen Bajwa and Prime Minister Imran] are in agreement," he had said.
Chaudhry had said that PM Imran and the army chief had a "long sitting" the previous night to discuss the matter and the premier had subsequently taken the cabinet into confidence over the issue.
"Gen Bajwa and the prime minister have close and cordial relations. And it is also important from a historical perspective that there are ideal relations between Pakistan's civilian and military leaderships," he had added.
On Oct 19 (Monday), Chaudhry had denied reports that a new summary with names of candidates for the office of ISI chief had been sent to the PMO. He had said that “all issues” between the civil and military leadership had been settled and a notification of the new ISI director general would be issued during the current week.
Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid had said much the same on Oct 16 (Saturday) that the issue of the appointment had been amicably settled between the civil and military leadership and the spymaster would be appointed before the next Friday.
However, when contacted about the matter on Thursday, he simply said: “I know nothing about it.”
Sources said that the prime minister was likely to issue a notification for the appointment of the spymaster on Friday, before his departure to Saudi Arabia on a three-day official visit. “Most probably the notification will be issued on Friday,” a senior cabinet member told Dawn on condition of anonymity.
The sources said Lt Gen Anjum, who was previously serving as the corps commander for Karachi, had called on the prime minister on Wednesday.
According to experts in defence matters, the procedure for appointment of the ISI director general is neither mentioned in the Constitution nor the Army Act, and all previous appointments were made as per traditions under which the army chief proposes three names to the prime minister who then makes the final decision.

God knows --- superstition? Desperation to keep the current guy there for a little longer? COAS making the announcement through ISPR without the PM's explicit approval --- and therefore the PM having to make a (weak) attempt at showing who's boss?
The best part is --- if it's such a big issue and somebody (COAS) who reports to you (PM) went behind your back, shouldn't you first ask for his resignation IF your stance is based purely on principle, rule of law, etc?

Regret to say that it is not a 'Face saving' for both the parties. Instead it is a clear message from Imran Khan that he is the 'Boss' and that he only decided in favour of the Army's choice after ensuring that the new DG ISI was up to the mark. The delay of almost a month also emphasises that it is IK who decides when the change should take place.
It is the 'Establishment' that has to somehow save the face. Admittedly one can also interpret it as " The Army had their way" and IK saved the face by delaying the appointment by almost a month. But In my humble opinion, my first interpretation is more accurate.

I disagree.
If IK had to show who was the boss, he would have shown the door to the person who went behind his back and made an announcement of an imp post without his explicit consent. But, of course, he is not in a position to ask for the big man's resignation (constitutionally he does, but who cares about that?).

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday approved the appointment of Lt General Nadeem Ahmed Anjum, the Corps Commander Karachi, as new director general of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), bringing an end to not just the uncertainty surrounding the sensitive matter but also apparent civil-military deadlock.
Although the prime minister finally picked the same general, who was named as new spymaster in October 6 press release of military's media wing, he has set a new precedent for the appointment of DG ISI in the future.
It was for the first time that the prime minister interviewed potential candidates before finalising the name of new spy chief sent by the Ministry of Defence.
Since 2000, it was only in 2012 when the announcement of new DG ISI came from the PM office and even that too was terse statement making no mention of either the interviews or consultations with the army chief. On all other occasions the announcement of ISI Chief was made by ISPR, military’s media wing.
In fact last two appointments during the current government also came from the ISPR. But only this time PM Imran objected to the past practice and insisted that he would make the final call, triggering an unprecedented standoff between the civil and military leadership who previously claimed to be on the same page.

The deadlock seemed to have broken after both sides reached a compromise. While the prime minister agreed to stick with the army chief's nominee for the coveted slot, the chief of army staff conceded that authority to appoint the DG ISI rested with the premier.
PM Imran also managed to prevail upon the army chief as far as interviewing the candidates for the ISI chief slot was concerned. It never happened in the past that any serving general was interviewed by the PM before being appointed DG ISI.
Prime Minister Imran also made clear he was the final authority to decide when the incumbent would relinquish the office and new one take over.
As per the October 6 official statement of the ISPR the new DG ISI was supposed to take charge immediately but the notification now issued by the PM Office stated that the incumbent would continue as country’s spymaster till November 20.
A notification issued by the PM Office on Tuesday said: “The Prime Minister has seen and approved the appointment of Lt Gen Nadeem Ahmed Anjum, HI (M) as Director General Inter-Services Intelligence, with effect from November 20, 2021”.

Who is Gen Nadeem
The incoming DG ISI, as per the ISPR, was commissioned in the Light Anti-Tank Battalion of the Punjab Regiment. He has diversified experience of command, staff and instructional assignments, according to the ISPR.
He is a graduate of the Combined Arms Centre, UK; Staff College, Quetta, Advance Staff Course, UK, the NDU, Islamabad, the APCSS, USA and the Royal College of Defence Studies, UK. He holds a Master’s degree from the King’s College, London and the NDU Islamabad.

“General has vast experience of command in conventional as well as sub conventional threat environment,” read the ISPR statement. It added that he had been on command on both the western border and the LOC besides long service in Balochistan.
Gen Nadeem commanded an infantry brigade in South Waziristan agency, an infantry brigade in Kurram agency and Hangu during the Operation Zarb-e-Azb and he was IGFC Balochistan during the Operation Raddul Fasad.
He has been an instructor at the PMA, Staff College and the NDU. He has been commandant of the Staff College, Quetta. He has also been chief of staff of 5 Corps. His last assignment was Commander 5 Corps, Sindh. “General is keen runner and enjoys playing basketball and cricket,” the ISPR statement said.
