New Delhi: Lt Gen (retd) JFR Jacob, who played a key role in the 1971 war, passed on Wednesday. He was 92.

He breathed his last at 8:30 am after prolonged illness, said authorities at Army Hospital (Research and Referral).

On December 26, 2014, the Indian Army veteran, hailed as the hero of Bangladesh Liberation War, had presented his books 'An Odyssey in War & Peace' and 'Surrender at Dacca' to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He was Chief of Staff of Eastern Command during the 1971 operations.

Later, he was appointed governor to Goa and Punjab.

I saw him on TV sometime back when he was attending an official function, didnt look in good shape.

They just Fade away
