SEOUL, KOREA - Lotte Confectionery will build a second "Choco Pie" plant in India. The company said that it would hold a groundbreaking ceremony on February 19 with dignitaries such as the governor, Korean ambassador to India, Lotte India president, as well as Lotte Confectionery president Kim Yong-su in attendance.
The new plant to be established in a 75,600-square-meter site will be located in Haryana Province near New Delhi. The company will invest up to 66 billion won to build the plant by July 2015.
Lotte Confectionery had built the first Choco Pie plant in Chenai in the south in 2010. A company official said, "Instead of using animal-based ingredient for the marshmallow filling, we used plant-based material all the while retaining the original taste of Choco Pie. This localization strategy has been what made us successful in the Indian market."
