The fate of some Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) in India hangs in balance as government officials discuss proposals to shut down some loss-making state-owned companies.

Some of these PSUs, including Air India, BSNL, ONGC, SAIL, Hindustan Photofilms, Hindustan Fertilisers Corporation and HMT have been consistently bleeding cash and have survived only on budgetary allocations.

Govt May Shut Down Loss-Making PSUs Like ONGC, Air India and BSNL

.
They won't be shut down, but he make private entities. Or current airlines will buy the international slots from it, or aircraft etc. But they won't be obliged to take persons, unlike equipment.

.
Or the majority shares should be sold out t private players I mean if they want!!!

.
Another very competent industry that has already been liquidated is Mining and Allied machinery Corporation.

. .
Some of the companies not in business anymore sit on prime land. That alone should give the government great value.

privatize at some extent would be good.....

Where there is no monopoly, it is best to either completely privatise or privatise to a very large extent. Even companies like BHEL & BEML must be largely privatised with government holding a minority stake with the caveat that any land sales must be approved by the government & a predominant portion (if approved) of the value must go bacl to the government. Will prevent asset stripping.

Anybody who has ever wore an HMT watch?(as most of the members are young). I have and it was quite robust.

All these dead psu's are the heritage of failed nehruvian legacy which congress held on to for decades. They are money pits that has been making money to their bosses rather than serving the nation. They should be buried.

Since when ONGC become a loss making unit ?

5 people have been appointed to do the job of one. Check their balance sheet over decades. It's a money pit. The only asset is their holdings in for in foriegn oil fields, but private firms are doing a better job.

.
Start with BSNL...... It should be sold out immediately......

Over 111,000 people were evacuated from Amman to Mumbai – a distance of 4,117 km, by operating 488 flights in association with Indian Airlines, from 13 August to 11 October 1990 – lasting 59 days. The operation was carried out during Persian Gulf War in 1990 to evacuate Indian expatriates from Kuwait and Iraq.

All formulas have been tried over the years. None worked out. I would be very happy if they completely reduce Govt stakes to bare minimum.

.
I visited BSNL office. And damn lazy and "tondu" type babu(clerk) was busy in yawning in an AC room..haha
this is the standard of BSNL workers.
Nobody was there to listen my problem carefully regarding bsnl sim.
I think they are getting assured salary thats why ther are not taking their job seriously
govt should make a policy where everyday they inspect "secretly" those clerks whether they are working or sleeping.
If found sleeping cut their salary for that day.

OTW
BSNL should be shut down immidiately or privatize it.
The emloyees are responsible for there this kinda situation.
