The purpose of the proposed Long marches by various sections of the Pakistan society has always been a march to Islamabad, the underlying notion has always been not to overthrow the government but to let them know that the days of following US dictates are over and action must be taken keeping Pakistan first.

A more symbolic gesture would be a march of millions from Pakistan to cross the border and lay siege to Bagram Air base, the base from where the US projects most of its power from on to Pakistan.

This will be a very overt and a people's movement rather the GOP or army. We need to consider this since the cure to Pakistan's problems lies with seeing Pakistan as a free nation with full democratic powers. Bagram Air base, for now, is preventing it.

Dissent and Protest all the way!

. .
This idea is very far from any possibility.:woot:
The afghanis can't protest in Afghanistan so how can we.News are already appearing that the some people inside Afghanistan are taking actions against the Pakistanis that are residing there.and besides first we have to protest in our country and put pressure on the military and civilian government.I am sure just one little push from awam and they will take action.

Yes, let them take action against Pakistan and we will send 4 million loser refugees back to Afgahnistan. It is time we have a tougher immigration policy and start cracking on the illegal aliens.

This thread is away from reality. In case Pakistan is attacked from Afghanistan again, why the hell w'll be walking to anywhere? All of Afghanistan, Arabian Sea, India, Persian Gulf, Indian Ocean, Indian base in Tajikistan is within reach of our missiles and our foot soldiers have known the moutain warfare in Afghanistan for decades.

.
remember the first wave of attacks on taliban government? thousands of pakistanis crossed borders into afghanistan to fight alongside their afghan 'brotheren' and died invain. betrayed by the very brothers they went to fight for. we cant trust afghanistan for anything. crossing into afghanistan to make an statement ? most wont live to tell the tale.

.
and dont forget 'charity begins at home' if somebody wants to protest tbey can do it inside pakistan.

Anybody remember what happened to the Khilafat March?

Emotionalism for sure, but surprising coming from you Asim.

There is no need for any march whatsoever.

The day Pakistani army straits its backbone and told US enough is enough everything will fall into place.

For that if you want to take march then march towards GHQ against ISI/Army surrender to americans.

Certainly not emotionalism... As I clearly mentioned, Pakistan's problem is America. Fixing Islamabad may just be a cosmetic change as then we'd be left with the problem of Fixing all the other centers of power in Pakistan that bow in Ji Hazoori to America. America may be able to withstand the closure of its Nato supplies for 2 days but it would be a whole other ballgame when it sees the power of the people who can shut down their air base for 2 days.

Ambitious, sure? Stupid, sure... But I don't buy our current 'pragmatism' as anything smart either. Unless cowardice is what qualifies as pragmatism nowadays.

Aglay apke mulk main ghuss ke aapko maarke jaatay hain... Aap ghuske naaray lagane se darte ho?

In mid summer when the heat is on peak, and people seeking shelter, and TTP awaiting avenge, sure not a bad idea!
If they can kill us from drones, they can kill us ( a dozen will be, including me, I guess ) claiming to be Muslim terrorist of ISI and bring some suicide jackets and keep near our bodies.

Whats wrong Asim, seriously we cross border where militants are hiding, so its a feast for them.

Difference being that during the Khilfat movement, the Brits ruled India..
and while today too.. the US rules Pakistan with it "bag o money or the gun" policy...they are less assertive than the brits.
And such a march will have the support of a majority of Pakistani's.. and no hinderance by the government.
However.. come Afghanistan.. they will spare no chance to make our lives hell.. there is a lot of hatred within the Afghan for us.. ungrateful as it may seem.. or NOT.. but its there.

Woh kehte hain na, baat niklay gi toh, duur tak jayegi.

It may also be possible that till the time such a movement starts, we'll see the Afghans joining us in the march rather than opposing us. How much happier are they with the perpetual occupation by the Americans?

Of course we can die, but we will die anyway by doing nothing. If the Americans are not kicked out of Pakistan and Afghanistan there remains a very high chance that we will not die a natural death.

I do appreciate and respect your sentiments Asim (and Santro) after your explanation.

However, I do not want to see more widespread killing and mayhem in which the blood of my homies is spilt even more freely. Surely a SMARTER solution would be more desirable.

How about laying siege to the Presidency, the GHQ, the provincial parliaments and the regional Corps Commander's offices?

When presidency is laid under siege, I think ultimately people will break into. Zardari would be flown out in one of the stealth Chinooks just before that happens. Ultimately that will happen too. But we must not forget the end goal is to kick America out, it already bombs Pakistan at will. Compliant government or a defiant one. It will just change tactics and bomb using its stealth bombers or perhaps that much talked about Stealth drone.

The end game lies in Afghanistan. The Pakistani people and Afghani people will have to do this or else there is no end in sight, except perishing into nothingness.
