LIVE BLOG:Jayalalitha Convicted in DA case, Violence Erupts in Tamilnadu.

Whats the reason for mass convertion among backward classes???
poverty??....

who are WE??
So you don't consider telegu speaking Christians as Telegus?...I have seen this mentality among Kannadigas...A Kannadiga should be a Hindu...
Yeah mostly....n missionaries greatly showcase their product....for example if u meet a Christian....he will try his best to convert u...sayin great things abt Jesus which r not even mentioned in bible...besides Hindus dnt knw what Hinduism really is!!!hindus barely read religous books(some hindu dnt even knw what r Vedas n uppanishads) i could count them on my fingers.... bt in Christianity bible reading is strict.... so they have better Idea what is.... thinks its better than Hinduism(which they know nothing abt n believe the lies of preacher).... beside missionaries get foreign funds....so they convert poor by giving them money...., this z happening not just in Ap bt also in whole India

I don't hate NI cities...
Many Srilankans view south India as a poverty stricken shithole with some lungi wearing blacks roaming here and there.....
I am from Kerala,not thambi...

Thats because most of them only travel to either Madras or Trichy on transit to North Indian Buddhist sites, So in there minds they pic the whole of South India in that perspective.. Even thats not entirely true

But those of us who have traveled to other areas know the difference.. Kerala is almost like SL except it's more crowded and a wee bit more chaotic, And Bangalore and Hyderabad are the best cities in India for most visitors

Nope...Tamilnadu politics may be funny, because of its unnatural hero worship....but is one of the most forward states in India both in overall development and education wise...Have you been to Madras or Coimbatore??..far way developed than some so called North Indian cities....
Thamilarin thaagam Tamil eela thayagam..
i havent been to any of the indian cities..economic development, especially per capita data are not wise to decide about backwardness of a country or a society. I just see the difference of how both media and ppl react in NI and TN.

For example SLns are lungi wearers too, they dont treat it as a sign of backwardness. We very well know south indian states are ahead of NI states in terms of per capita data. It was the immaturity of the state leaders and relative ease to make people go crazy over little things...my mother has seen bihar and told us how it was....

when it comes to indian media, what we know are TOI, express. the Hindu..can you please tell some TN based media in english (except hindu)?

Actually i met TN not south india....i guess south india is not TN

Sixteen die, two more in hospital after Jayalalithaa verdict - The Times of India

CHENNAI: At least 16 people committed suicide or died of cardiac arrest across Tamil Nadu after a special court in Bangalore convicted AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa in the 66.65 crore disproportionate assets case on Saturday and sentenced her to four years in prison. Two people have been hospitalized with severe burns.

Police said three people hanged themselves, one AIADMK supporter committed suicide by self-immolation, one person ended his life by jumping in front of a bus and one person died after consuming poison after the court pronounced its verdict. Ten others died of cardiac arrest, apparently due to shock after Jayalalithaa's conviction, a police officer said.

Two people, including a Class 12 student, attempted self-immolation self and have been hospitalised with severe burns. Another ardent AIADMK supporter chopped off his little finger in Tirupur.

Ironically, the chief minister had in August written a letter to a woman who attempted to kill herself after a Sri Lankan government website carried a derogatory post on Jayalalithaa. She urged the woman not to be overcome with emotion and asked her to understand that suicide is an act of cowardice.

Party leaders said the extreme reactions were testimony to Jayalalithaa's popularity but called on party supporters not to take the step.

Social welfare board chairperson and AIADMK women's wing deputy secretary C R Saraswathi said the reactions of grief "shows the relationship people share" with Jayalalithaa. "Everyone in the state sees Amma as their mother," she said.

More than 16,600 people killed themselves in Tamil Nadu last year, the most cases of suicide among all states with the exception of Maharashtra. In a state where political leaders and film stars are larger than life, it is not uncommon for people to react to a setback to a leader by committing suicide, especially by self-immolation, a social scientist said.

Of the 16,601 cases of suicide in Tamil Nadu in 2013 more than 2,000 were by self-immolation - the most painful way to die - or 12.6% of all cases of suicide in the state, as compared to a nationwide average of 7.3%. Experts have linked the phenomenon to Tamil Nadu's culture and literature, in which numerous stories treat fire as a cleansing spirit, a form of protest or as a statement of intent.

Police said Venkatesan, 58, a resident of APN Pratap Nagar in Valasaravakkam, Chennai, set himself ablaze on Saturday. He died at Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital (KMCH) on Sunday. A Jonasha, 19, a second-year BA student of Trichy, and Lakshmanan, 40, of Modakurichi near Erode, hanged themselves on Saturday night. An unidentified party supporter in Sivaganga also hanged himself, police said.

Subramanian, 70, of Singampunari near Theni, ended his life by consuming poison. Party supporter Nalayiram, 48, of Pavoorchathiram near Tenkasi in Tirunelveli, was crushed after he jumped in front of a moving bus on Saturday.

Class 12 student M Nagalakshmi, 17, set herself ablaze near Madurai. She has been hospitalised with 80% burns. AIADMK supporter Balakrishnan, 52, set himself on fire in his house at 4pm on Sunday. He has been admitted to Government Hospital in Cuddalore with 65% burns.

'Rettai Ilai' Bhoopathy of Tirupur chopped off his little finger after hearing about the court verdict, police said.

Errr Tambi why so much enimosity against "So Called North Indian Cities"?

No offence but some of the maiin locations of NI cities (as they are called) are so worse than the worst suburbs of Chennai or Coimbatore.
Bhopal Central Railway station looked far worse than a local electric railway station in my area. I was like, did I get down at a wrong place.

What violence? Even offices are not closed today in Chennai :(, they should give atleast 3 days hols, I protest

You are comparing Metro cities with small cities of India. I have traveled across interior of Tamil Nadu, it looked no different from North India. ;)

Jaya is given option to either roll agarbatti or, dice vegetable.

Somehow I think this is getting too far. She might consider it her insult and may damage inter-state relationship.
