Lithuania cancels decision to donate Covid-19 vaccines to Bangladesh after UN vote on Russia

Lithuania has cancelled its decision to donate Covid-19 vaccines to Bangladesh after the country abstained during the United Nations General Assembly vote on condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Rasa Jakilaitienė, a spokeswoman for the prime minister, has said.

Earlier this week, the government decided to send 444,600 doses of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine to Bangladesh.

The UN General Assembly on Wednesday overwhelmingly adopted a resolution that demands Russia to “immediately” withdraw from Ukraine.

After more than two days of debate, which saw the Ukrainian ambassador accuse Russia of genocide, 141 out of 193 UN member states voted in favour of the non-binding resolution.

Bangladesh was among the 35 countries that abstained, while just five – Eritrea, North Korea, Syria, Belarus, and, of course, Russia – voted against it.

The resolution “deplores” the invasion of Ukraine “in the strongest terms” and condemns Russian President Vladimir Putin‘s decision to put his nuclear forces on alert.

At the same time, the General Assembly expressed its support for Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity.

Well we know where Lithuania stands. We can produce this number of vaccines in less than two weeks.
Is BD producing medicines? I read news that America is sending millions of doses to BD every month.

No news about Beximco field trials yet. I thought our Darvesh company would really do something.

Thank God, Lithuania doesn't have more power than this... Otherwise, I already can see Bangladesh getting nuked for her grave mistake at UN

Who cares.

All of BD “vulnerable” are now jabbed and BD is at “herd immunity” from omicron variant.

BD has plenty of vaccines to give timely vaccines to its “vulnerable” going forward.

Nobody cares.
BD has so far administered 210 million doses of vaccine.
51% are fully vaccinated.
75% have got atleast 1 dose.
444K doses are hardly enough to fully vaccinate 0.2% of 'eligible' population and in terms of entire population, that percentage is even lesser. .

Well at least there's one issue that unites South Asia. :D
Sorry little Lithuania, we can't antagonize Ruskies. So shove those vaccines up your collective unwashed rear.

This is not the appropriate way to retaliate at Bangladesh. Trade or diplomatic sanctions are fair game, but this will simply serve to prolong the covid crisis that humanity should fight as a whole. Needless to say, this is also not humanitarian.

Covid-19 is dead and buried in BD.

BD is now at "herd immunity" to omicron and the virus is back in its box again. All "vulnerable" have been jabbed and this is now a minor virus to the BD population now.

Insensitive decision as regards the vaccine doses but totally irrelevant.
