One of the biggest names of education in Pakistan, Quaid-e-Azam University, which was found in the 1960s, has seen a dramatic turnaround in its reputation recently. Students from all over Pakistan preferred studying at QAU for their bachelor’s and master’s, however, this fame has seen an emphatic decrease due to the recent incidents that have taken place at the university.

THE INCREASING DRUG CULTURE IN PAKISTAN’S NUMBER.1 UNIVERSITY
Recently, the scandal that literally shocked the educational forums of the nation was of the teachers selling drugs (alcohol and hashish/chars) to students, it was told to the National Assembly Standing Committee on Federal Education and Professional Training. The meeting was chaired by MNA Colonel Dr. Amirullah Marwat (retired) at Quaid-i-Azam University.

According to a report aired on 24 News, there was a blatant mafia operating inside the university which was selling all sorts of drugs to students and residents, which included people who did not study at the university but lived inside the hostels. At least 3 employees of the university were involved in the racquet.

PROVINCIAL-ETHNIC CLASHES IN QAU ARE TAKING THE HEADLINES AGAIN
Apart from the drug charade, there is a vice much worse that goes on the university and has been for a long time. The provincial and ethnic clashes/rivalries between students and their organizations takes the cake. The number.1 ranked the university of Pakistan is seeing students clash on the base of where they belong from or who they are, ethnically.

Media blackout after ethnic conflict between Sindhi/Pukhtun students in Quaid e Azam University Islamabad and varsity is closed since 3 days

6:55 PM - 21 Jan 2017

According to a blog published on Sindh Post, “According to sources, a student of first-year from Sindh (name not known yet) was wheeling on his car in the university premises, he was asked by a group of Pathan students not to do that, but on his refusal, they started beating him up.

After the incident, the student rushed to his friends and told them the story. After listening about the incident the Sindhi students responded with similar violence and injured three students of the other group.

late night Pathan students again responded and beat up Sindhi students and injured them. According to journalist Husun Abbas’s facebook status the injured Sindhi students include Shams Chandio, Tariq Metlo, Hafeez Seelro, Asif Tatri, Ravi Kumar, Rahib Bhutto, Kamran Rind, Ahsan Bhand and Siraj Depart،”

The recent clash among the Sindhi and Pathan students has added salt to the already fresh wounds of the drug episode in QAU. However, this is not the first time ethnic clashes have taken place inside the university. A Baloch graduate of the University from Quetta, who does not want to be named, told this source that ethnic clashes were regular in the university. If they weren’t fighting, they were always eyeballing each other on the basis of ethnicity.

According to news published in Dawn (2013), “A student of QAU, requesting anonymity, said there are a Punjab Council, Pakhtun Council, Mehran Council, Siraiki Council, Baloch Council and Gilgit-Baltistan Council in the university. These were established over two decades ago except for the GB council, which was established two years ago.”

All these provincial and ethnic councils only add fuel to fire. Common sense says that the more there are contesting power, the more scattered every bit of logistic would be. Let us hope that QAU rids itself from all the negativity that has encircled and concerned authorities handle the issues with diligence.

Same situation in Federal Urdu and to a degree in Arid

If they can band UET Peshawar, Peshawar University, KMC Peshawar then how cant they do so in QAU? Its all matter of will but may be someone is getting benefitted from all this and they dont want to stir things there otherwise how hard can it be to control a bunch of students?

Not to hurt anyone here, but see, these are fruits of freedom and unwanted liberalism for the children while trying to keep-up with West contrary to the side-effects. Yes, people will soon realize that such kind of independence to the kids as well as bragging the same for society which ultimately ends like this or going to push it for, there is need of strict check & balance. For the comparison, we can see the previous Generation and its behaviour with current one. Institutions have to make it strict but on other hand, the training from home and the fear of punishment against any offense, makes them more human and respected citizen but fake modernization and to be called as liberal, this is how things ends.

This is a disaster that will hurt us in shape of corrupting the youth that will take more than decades or even century to recover. The curse of so-called freedom to the children, the liberalism and fake moderns, advance family tag etc is going to end like this and the irony is, parents are the part of such situation as well. Big pockets can only afford such thing regularly to buy so the fake freedom and big pocket money should be checked for the proper balance as well that how kids spend as such which will ultimately demonize the seller. That was easy to blame the teachers but overall, every person is involved even those who kept quiet as well and all needs to be punished once for all though it was easy to blame teachers as why not to shame the Education Minister along with other responsible.

There is nothing like ethnic issue at all, until & unless we don't brag it or call for it. It is being injected among the youth especially, on a purpose and deliberately that may remain divided and the main source for the same are, political parties. IMO, wherever & whenever, any group with ethnic affiliation is found/created, not just the group/party be dealt strictly but the parent political party should be banned as well that these Student factions cannot run alone. Such formations are actually like corrupting the youth from beginning so that once grown up and have to play part in National Politics, they will still continue with same ethnic priorities mindset. It is time that not just the relevant departments but the parents/guardians as well, must ensure that such kind of training or education never be taught to the children at all.

On this very forum selected few are willing to kill to safeguard the interest of another countries (Saudi Arabia or Iran) even at the expense at harming Pakistan, do you really think that is the fault of liberalization

It's called Divide and Rule, you have politicians in Pakistan that follow that simple rule to stay in power because of that most Pakistanis are divided either on language or religious grounds

Divide & Rule, Good reference I must say. Yes, such development from fake modesty to freedom of speech, extremism in both form like Religious or Liberalism, copying the West and US to having such side effects, indeed, these are done deliberately for the cause to rule the populace and these fake leaders are not looking into any solution nor want to do so due to the fear of loosing grip upon their individual power and influence hence all the division.

Extreme through any mean is harmful and from both side, it is actually doing the same thing like "sabotaging the society" and Political Elite has to do its job by forming and creating such laws but the greedy breed has no idea how to do it except, tendering for contracts and money/kickbacks which is the sole purpose to become a parliamentarian etc nowadays. Interest must be only Pakistan and insults to the religion are not tolerable through any mean that lines needs to be drawn to avoid chaos and anarchy in the society.

Wow we cant even study with being devided! Amazing nation or i must say crowd we are...
