Leasing 4 Ships from China

Since our Type 054 are a few years away , might as well go for some second hand option , for fill gape scenario or Lease out few units

We need 4 Ships for temporary Lease of 5 years

Since they are inducting alot of ships , I am certain they will be decommissioning few assets here and there plus check out international market for

  • Used frigates
  • Used OPV
  • Used Missile Boats

We could even pick up few assets in International markets which may be retiring just retro fit them with local radar and sonar and weapons

I think the construction in house is too slow
The in house builders can't even make 1-3 ships in year

  • Construction results for F22P was ok great back in 2005
  • Construction speed / results for Azmat class missile boat was reasonable , not great but reasonable for a small ship
  • 4th Ship has taken ages , and no new frigate is being manufactured

If the local development is slow , might as well pick some retiring assets in markets , and then let local Pakistan Labor force , do some service work on the for 6 months

Do some refurbishment projects on side

I think it will be wastage of resources & time. You can't just buy a used system and induct in directly, rather it needs repairs & up-gradation and then integrations takes time as well thus we will be spending considerable resources on something used.

We should rather focus on accelerating the development of our projects and expediting the acquisitions we have signed already. As of now PNS is in good shape to cope with INS if any eventuality takes place and PLAAN will lend a helping hand whenever and wherever necessary. I think we should rather sign a join defence treaty with China.

Well used assets are cheap , and they can still be made useful with local in house weapons selection we have
  • We have in house Sonar knowledge
  • We have in house Ship to Ship missiles
  • We have in house Ship to Shore missile
  • We can install few Anti Air options

So that leaves us with just cost of Refurbishment , prep up interior / exterior , electrical work
Servicing of the Ships

Many East Asian countries like Philippines go that route

Only if you get a system in pretty decent condition and with little use and at great price.. which is very difficult because navies tend to use their assets for a long time since those are quite expensive buy in the first place. The retired assets are near their expiry or already expired and obsolete so it will take a lot of effort to make them useable seaworthy machines.

We just need ships , the other stuff weapons , and Radar can be done with partners who do that kind of installation. Turkey does this type of Installation projects routinely

Refurbishment ( Repairs, Paint , Clean up ) this is all easy stuff for local labor force
Any private firm can arrange for people to do this refurbishment

Even Chinese private ship refurbishment service can help bring back 10 years to ship

Mostly these assets will be close Regional patrol

Sure by 2030 when our new stuff will come etc , we can certainly decommission these fall gap assets

Within a year or two, we will start receiving our type 054a so I don't think we need to go for retired ships.

I am very much hopeful that first Type 54 will join PN any time this year and second would be in first quarter of next year 2020 IA.

We have gotten so used to giving junk to our navy that Idea of buying rusted decommissioned rust buckets seems so good to some of the members here. Seriously people duniya ka sara kabaar utha lo kuch bach na jaye.

We spent millions of rusted OHP frigate from US and they didnt even bother to provide armnaments for that ship. On top of that engine almost blew a hole in ship during its testing. Kitna kabaar uthana hai duniya say? Just wait a few years you will have new ship kabar ka maal uthanay ki adat choar do ab.

Type 54's will start arriving from next year if not by the end of this year .. according to the signed contract all 4 of them supposed to be delivered by 2021 .. its already almost mid 2019 means at least 2 of them are already under construction or near completion .
