I am aware of this and honestly I come from Northern roots too and I feel disgusted with Cantonese people because of these same reasons. But it doesn't matter unless the government passes policies that will destroy these conditions and habits. That's the only way to prevent a virus from this from arising again.

In the North, most people eat meats from large animals like cows, lamb, pigs etc because there is a lot of grazing territory. The strangest thing that would be eaten by some people in Northern China would be donkey meat maybe. But in Southern China which is filled with mountainous territories, rivers and had many tribal groups that were later sinicized in history, they eat all kinds of small animals.

Yeah basically. Northern Chinese food is considered more simple and hardy, and the people are not so obsessed with food as the South. Which isn't a bad thing at least they know their limits and don't try to eat every living thing.

One thing China can do in the future is like a harsh campaign against certain meats I remember hearing awful stories about Shark Fin soup being a very popular dish in the mid 2000s and was gaining traction among the growing middle class as prior to the opening up policies of the 90s and 80s it was hard to get by only catered to CCP cadre but the PRC went on this harsh campaign and a decade later Shark Fin Soup is no longer eaten by the public and harsh fines and punishments

It's actually the other way around. Chinese people are always desiring more and very restless, they never follow rules and are always trying to find a sneaky way around things to get what they want. That's why China has an authoritarian government, that's the only way to control 1 billion six year olds.

Pakistan too despite the military strongarming the country back and forth has not been able to become stable and grown just stagnate .The problem is the region is just s..ty you got Afghanistan to the west, India to the east , Iran despite I support Iran a lot more and feel more envious to them more is just meh leaving China the only peaceful front we have

Personally these corrupt officials who covered up this issue should be executed. I was never a fan of chairman Mao due to what he did to his fellow brothers (Peng Duhai) but one can never deny officials were prone to tell lies to Mao in order to please him. This costs the lives of millions of people. Maybe Chairman Mao would have reacted differently if he knew the truth on the harvest. The same applies in this situation. Xi must be tough on these corrupt officials and give them no mercy just like Bao Zheng did when it came to justice.
