. . . .
China's 2015 Nature Index soared by 10%

The most important trend is China's year-over-year increase of 10% in the Nature Index (from 6,037 to 6,728 in weighted fractional index articles). The other Top 7 countries in the Nature Index were mostly flat in their annual quality research output.

interesting. But is it only English written articles that are accounted for?
I don't know the answer to your question. I know there is an English-language Nature China publication.

Reference: Nature China

Can you submit a science article to Nature China in Mandarin? I don't know the answer.

I'm assuming it's only English articles. So if you combine the Chinese articles, China would be higher.

These days all Chinese scientists are publishing articles in English top journals, which qualifies them to get generous awards from the government.

So Chinese publishing is declining, especially in quality, as quality papers are without exception published in top recognized journals, which are almost all in English.

So, these stats are accurate.

your vedic logic functions again.

the quality of top chinese publications only inceases on the same pace with the papers on top english publications from china, because basically they are from the same authors. those top scholars will only push the overall quality of chinese academic research to a higher level, instead of downgrading it. they will also serve as peer reviewers or editors on the chinese publications.

To my surprise, there are 13 chinese institutions on top 100, and 7 on top 50 of Nature publication index, where the US dominance is so overwhelming.

All of those journals above accepts only English. Those journals constitutes for 1% of the journals out there, however they get 30% of the all citations. This means scientists who can publish in those journals are the ones who make the standards in their fields. Basically those guys are the frontiers or the leaders in those areas one might say.

@Martian2 very nice topic. That's a topic that I've made a research in the past. Altough China has a huge potential that is still waiting for to be used in the fields of science, current situation is generally satisfying.

There is a little feedback that I wanna give to you regarding this issue. China has a lot of top tier scientist who can make very prestigious publications. However because of the language barrier, some of the Chinese scientist who are trained in China are becoming disadventaged. You can learn English, but it's still harder to make science with a language other then your own. It's never like the mother tongue. Scientific information should be translated to Chinese and Chinese should more and more become a language of Science.

Please refrain from talking nonsense because I can quote you Chinese journals publication but there is no point because you do not read/write Chinese.

Good eye. I didn't see their list of Nature Index journals.

those journals represent the most respectable publications in fundamental sciences. however, unlike most western developed countries, fundamental sciences are not on the top of funding list in china. most of the money goes to applied sciences, especially engineering. so u see the chinese institutions in top 100 of nature index, but some of the top money suckers in china are not even in this list, because fundamental research are not their focus.

. .
Much better than odd publications based ranking.

Surprised that Iran ranks even below Saudi arabia otherwise they publish 4 times the research output of Saudi arabia or Pakistan
