Lal Masjid’s expansionism, militant links alarms agencies

ISLAMABAD: Security agencies have warned the government due to his links with known militant groups and his anti-government rhetoric that the resurgence of Lal Masjid cleric Abdul Aziz poses a security threat to the law and order situation in the capital.

They also stressed the need for a check on the growing number of madressahs in Rawalpindi and Islamabad who also have overt and covert links with militant groups.

A report entitled ‘Activities of Maulana Abdul Aziz’, forwarded to the interior ministry by the country’s primary intelligence agency, says that the “Lal Masjid mafia” has links with militant groups and land grabbers and is currently reorganising the Ghazi Force militant group spawned by his own followers after the Lal Masjid operation.

“Activities of Maulana Abdul Aziz and Lal Masjid administration, if not checked / contained can subsequently create [a] serious law and order situation in [the] twin cities,” the report said.

The report, a copy of which is available with Dawn, highlights the links between the Taliban and the Lal Masjid cleric, stressing the importance of the Taliban choosing Maulana Abdul Aziz as a representative on the committee formed to negotiate with the government on their behalf.

Intel report warns Abdul Aziz may be a law and order liability if his designs not checked

The report names “notorious land grabber” Taji Khokhar as someone who has been arranging land for the construction of seminaries, funded by the Lal Masjid administration, and also assists them with their court cases. The report also names property tycoon Malik Riaz and former MNA Shah Abdul Aziz of Karak as the controversial cleric’s “sympathizers”.

Dawn tried to contact Malik Riaz’s spokesperson for a response to these allegations, but they did not care to comment.

The report says that Riaz is “financially supporting the [seminaries] of Maulana Abdul Aziz for payment of utility bills and supported the cleric in building a mosque in Bahria Town that has been renamed Jami Hafsa.

The former MNA Shah Abdul Aziz was arrested in 2009 for allegedly helping a Taliban militant escape from Islamabad. The man was said to be hiding in Maulana Abdul Aziz’s G-6 residence.

‘Lal Masjid mafia’

The report points out that a small all-girls seminary – the Jamia Syeda Summaya in Sector G-7/3 – is managed by the Lal Masjid administration and has already been renamed ‘Jamia Hafsa’. “They are reportedly planning to grab Al-Falah Mosque, located adjacent to this seminary, as the management of Al-Falah Mosque has resisted and filed a case against them in court.” Maulana Abdul Aziz is currently residing in the same Jamia Hafsa.

Similarly, the report refers to the construction of another Jamia Hafsa branch in the Mal Pur village, against the wishes of local residents.

Residents of Mal Pur had lodged a complaint with the Islamabad deputy commissioner, signed by 181 locals, saying that the Lal Masjid management were trying to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere of their village.

The complaint by the locals said, “First, they tried to grab Jamia Masjid Quba Ghausia, [but] as a result the mosque was sealed by the administration.”

“Barelvis and Shias have been living here in peace for centuries, but the first thing they did was to create differences among our communities with the help of outsiders,” said Sibtul Hassan Bukhari, a local political activist. “What can we do except file complaints with the authorities,” he asked, rhetorically.

On the other hand, the authorities seem to prefer sticking to their traditional blame game, instead of acting as the situation demands.

ICT administration officials told Dawn that the issues such as the illegal expansion of madressahs or mosques in G-7 and other sectors is the purview of the Capital Development Authority (CDA).

“However, as far as the Mal Pur case is concerned, or any law and order situation related to Lal Masjid – we require policy guidelines from the interior ministry,” the official said.

Incidentally, a CDA spokesperson told Dawn that all encroachments are cleared with the help of ICT administration and police.

“We will look into any illegal expansion by any mosque or madersa, but without the help of the police department, no action can be taken,” he added.

Meanwhile, a former commissioner of Islamabad said that the situation has changed and the Lal Masjid cleric no longer enjoyed public sympathy.

“Al-Falah Masjid falls under the ICT’s jurisdiction and the committees of all the mosques in Islamabad are registered with ICT,” the retired commissioner said, adding, “If they failed to deliver anything now there will not be any more chances to establish the writ of law here.”

Return of the cleric

On Friday, Maulana Abdul Aziz returned to lead the Friday congregation at the Lal Masjid and delivered a sermon demanding implementation of Sharia in the country.

With a heavy contingent of police and rangers personnel posted outside, Abdul Aziz presented a charter of demands, calling for the implementation of Sharia law in the country, the establishment of a strong committee of senior clerics to ‘Islamise’ existing laws of country and abolish traditions which, according to him, were un-Islamic.

Action is required against this Burka wearing retard. It's amazing the amount of freedom this sort of people have in Pakistan.

.
Who is in his back? Or civil and military both are afraid to an accepted back lash? His warrants are delivered but police is unable to arrest him.

. .
I think the local Potoharis should form a nationalist party for self defense. These outsiders are destroying our religious harmony. Now they have even started invading our villages.

Too little nationalism is as bad as too much nationalism. We're on the "too little" side unfortunately. Otherwise we would have sent these Punjabi gangsters(Khokhars, Abdul Aziz Burqa and Malik Riaz) back to Punjab.

Glad to see your concerns and comments though the problem is not between Potoharis and Punjabis, rather FATA/Afghan invasion of Punjab and rest of Pakistan. For a long period of time, I was perhaps the only one who used to analyze situation like this and I was labeled as racist as a result. The fact is, an overwhelming majority of Aziz-the-Terrorist's supporters hail from FATA/Afghanistan. Throw these unpatriotic morons and foreigners out of Punjab and problem will be solved, or at least a large part of the problem will be solved. Every Pakistani can settle anywhere in Pakistan but he cant be allowed to take hostage the old inhabitants and change their way of life.

not sure about you or others but I don't find anything new in below stated article - we all know very well who has provided this mullah with Land Cruisers and Prados to move around, where he lives and who is funding him - back in July when ZAB was started I had discussed this with @Secur, some people supported this goon with a view that may be we need him one day against Tangos, but this mullah had to go down that road again ---
BUT, I have my doubts over this report.
RM is on good terms with establishment, hence they will not be dragging his tush down this road -and Taji Khokar, well I don't need to mention to you that hes a rival to our Interior Minister -- something tells me this report is made up by some other agency, to curb on some for personal gains ---
However this is all true militants have set up madrasas around twin cities, and I have been banging my head against the wall for last few years ----

This report somehow linked to capture of ghazi force HQ in N.waziristan in last week of december. Army find treasure trove of info about financiers and who provide logistic support to Mullah Abdul Aziz. Let's hope, this time establishment don't dilly dally on Lal masjid like they did it from Jan-June 2007 and instead of wasting Special branch/IB resources and manpower on IK activities, put them on Lal Masjid administration

This is several days old news that appeared in only one E-newspaper (Express News). Considering the importance of this news, I wonder why it did not appear in several other mainstream newspapers. At any rate, revelations such as this need to go out and shared actively so people's perception regarding the religious thugs could be changed in Pakistan's favor.

This Taji Khokhar is a Punjab, who has brought in hundreds of SSP, LEJ hate preachers from Punjab to terrorize local vilagers. He is said to have committed 300 murders, with most of the victims being the poor landowners and the less influential. I have no problem with the average Punjabi, but that doesn't change the fact that these outsiders are Punjabis and they grabbed the land of our own poor kinsmen with us wearing bangles and doing nothing in return. And these Khokhars use a good number of Afghans as henchmen.

As for FATA and Afghan people coming in. Well the FATA people are welcome to settle in Islamabad as it's the capital and all, but there needs to be a limit who gets in. In China, you need a permit to settle in Shanghai. In Pakistan, you can be a smuggler or even a TTP member and still can settle in Islamabad and Karachi with no check at all.

I think the solution for this is that we become a separate province. Trust me, we are not seen as "real Punjabis" by the real Punjabis of central region. There's no Potohari representation in the PML-N government. Chaudhary Nisar, the only Potohari of PML-N is the biggest shemale I have ever seen.

Isn't this the same Taji Khokhar who was rumored to be attacked by it's own Lion, got seriously injured and went to Dubai for treatment and lived there for several years ?

And taji khokhar is Pithu/Right hand man/enforcer of Malik riaz in Land grabbing. Most of land for Bahria town and DHA were grabbed by Taji khokhar by driving poor villagers out

He's a very evil person, with a very bad family. They are said to have terrorized people not selling their land to them for cheap rates by putting them into a cage with their pet lions. He was made by Malik Riaz(who in turn was made by retired army generals and navy officials) and Chaudharies of PML-Q. He's well associated with SSP and LEJ, from whom he gets Punjabi henchmen sometimes. Basically, religion is their weapon. And he has been well protected by the Pakistani politicians. His son was gifted an SMG made out of gold by none other than the Sindhi, Asif Zardari.

Most of his victims have been the poorest people. At least now his son is in jail for a murder of local woman who wasn't selling them her property. These mother******s haven't even spared our women with us being too good of "ummatis". Although one of us, Malik Bari, hit them back hard when he killed a few retired army officers who were involved with Bahria Town, but he unfortunately died of natural causes way too early. But these outsiders are calling for their own doom. Mark my words.

That video made my blood boil.

By his caveman logic the Palestinians and the Israelis are practically family. They fight not because they have differences but because they love each other. Because brothers fight all the time. When brothers get angry, they cut the heads off one another.

Bra-fcking-vo. What kind of mothers give birth to morons like these. I am absolutely appalled.

@Hyperion
talking about Abdul Aziz vs state of Pakistan I always recall Mc Hammers "U cant touch this" song
He and his group of male and female thugs have done a lot more than reported
he knows he can bring any government down and even the state he will put his word into action once our military is degraded into iraq or syria level he is so sure of himself that we cant touch him that he can record himself peeing on our flag or constitution and nothing will happen.. it is people like him and other terror celebraties from LeJ etc that bring the military's resolve into question he is like 5 km away from ISI and only few hours from GHQ poking them in the eye with a screw driver but they are curling away
his thugs are profiling the islamabad population to identify "wrong" sects and religions his team came to our local mosque as well few years ago
by the way he e joys a lot of support from judicary and civil administration so you and I can only burn in rage while he mocks us
watch this space he will barricade and install gun posts on lal masjid soon to purge islamabad from kafirs
during imran's dhurnas his staunch supporters from ASWJ protested against the participants of the sit in and specially woved to wipe out shias from pakistan his ghazi force is battle hardened and respected partner among othrrs in TTP umberalla bringing men and money to the cause.

wont be surprised if abdul aziz is housing some wanted national or international terrorists in one of his premises but lije I said earlier we cant touch him,
