* Singer Ali Azmat says Mother’s Day calls for helping those deprived of mother’s love
* Citizens throng card, flower shops and bakeries

LAHORE: Citizens across the provincial metropolis on Sunday joined the world in celebrating Mother’s Day by holding gatherings, functions and ceremonies to talk about the value of mothers, motherhood and maternal bonds in general, as well the positive contributions that they make to society. A number of children presented their mothers with gifts as tokens of their appreciation for the sacrifices made by the women in raising them up. Special Mother’s Day cakes were sold across the city, youngsters gave cards to their mothers while those living at a distance wished their mothers via the Internet. Television channels and radio stations arranged special programmes to mark the day. “My mother is the most important person in my life and I’ve made sure that I maintain a close bond with her even though I have been married for seven years now,” Mrs Kalsoom, a house wife, said.

Love for granted: “After bearing two children, I have learned just how tough it is to raise kids, and realised the great ordeal my mother went though to raise my three siblings and me. We take our loved ones for granted but a mother is God’s greatest gift to mankind,” she said. “The mother is the one person that everyone turns to in his or her hour of need. They are always forgiving and just for this they deserve unconditional respect,” renowned musician Ali Azmat told Daily Times.

Time management: “Although times have changed and people are preoccupied trying to keep up with the fast pace of today’s world, they should do their utmost to spend as much time with their parents as possible, especially mothers. The Mother’s Day also calls for helping those children who are deprived of motherly love,” he added. Khurram, a young businessman at a Mother’s Day function said, “Nothing can be compared to the love of a mother. I owe all the success I’ve achieved in life to my mother’s prayers and guidance.” “We are six brothers and are honoured to have our mother living with us,” Mehmood Akhtar Siddiqi, an electronics dealer, said. staff report
