According to latest 2017 Census,

Lahore population clocking in at 11.1 million while Karachi population clocks in at 14.9 million. All defaming and allegations aside, we can see these numbers are really close. There's a difference of 5 million, which isn't not a lot.

This shows that Lahore is growing much faster than Karachi. If this pattern continues, Lahore might surpass Karachi as the most populous city.

Lahore becoming the Center of Pakistan?

Is the center of Pakistan's economy being shifted to Lahore? Will one day people of Lahore complain that they have the most people so they should get the most devolpment and investment from the government? Government already looks to Lahore, will it be kept looking to Lahore? Lahore will now be increasing their GDP, and tax contributions to Pakistan. Is Karachi becoming the new Chicago, where population is dropping/or slowly increasing? Karachi is already a huge city, it will be greatly impacted by Lahore's huge city becoming.

What should be done?

If that SO should we accept this and move on?

Should be create a new mega city in Punjab, 50-70 km from Lahore to allievate overpopulation? Should we ban high rise buildings to maintain the historical culture aurora of Lahore?

What should be done with Karachi? Should we develop Karachi? Fix the trash problem, stop gang violence, end traffic jams, clear slums, etc?

I think we should increase population for Karachi, all rural people should migrate to Karachi. Yes, the density should be increased in Karachi. With more high rises, and ban on less than 3 story houses.

need to build a few sky crappers there

Yea, turn Orangi Town into big park. And fill skyscrapers in all of Clifton, Gulshan e Iqbal, Nazimabad.

I really hope it doesn't become most populous we should be creating new cities and limit population of city's like Lahore and Karachi to 10 mil max overpopulation just hurts everything and everyone. Look at Dhaka, Karachi, Delhi etc.

Well my idea was the US approach. We need to concentrate 80% of our population in urban cities, this will leave vast amounts of land for free use (farming, natural beauty, frontiers). Look at india, they are running out of land to fit their 1 billion people, because they are so evenly spread out. We have to make sure we don't do that.

That's why i said we should make new city but limit Lahore's pop to 10-12mil skyscrapers will simply ruin it's beauty and attraction it have.

Yes I agree. We should build a city 50-70 km from Lahore. While for Karachi, it should become more dense, and be ordered to be ready to fit large amounts of people.

Karachi population is not 15 million. It is somewhere around 23 to 25 million.

It was 9.4 million in 1998, it's now 14.9 million (according to Census). That's an increase of about 5.5 million people in 19 years. That is somewhat reasonable, because that equates to about 2.5 lakhs babies born each year.

.
Redevelop slum/dilapidated housing, and improve transit links between the city and its surrounding towns.

Also the govt needs to severely reduce migration, until the city has the space and resources to support them.

Yea, Faisalabad sounds nice. But how we're going to get Lahoris to migrate to Faislabad?

By the way, Faisalabad is extremely well planned out. Perfect choice.

But why Lahoris should migrate to FSD anyway? FSD should me made bigger so that people from rural areas near FSD can migrate to urban areas as you said to make space for farming etc. New uni's and colleges should also be opened up in FSD for people from rural areas it will be easier to attract them this way imo. @Hell hound @Zibago

I don't think space is problem in cities if we start replacing slums with high rise apartments. Karachi should lead the way considering it can't grow on every side. Rural growth is more dangerous because in punjab, most people like to have big homes and good agricultural land is wasted.

Faislabad already pretty industrialized in the textiles. We shall implement more industries, in Faisalabad. Like pharamaceutics, foods, meat butcheries.

For Karachi, We should replace slums like Orangi Town, with a large Central Park like NY. We should erect nothing but high rises in sorrounding devolvped areas.
