With an improvement of 56 ranking places, Lahore, the seat of government in Punjab, is even safer than Paris, New York, Berlin and Chicago on the World Crime Index (WCI), according to a survey conducted by Numbeo.

Numbeo is a crowd-sourced global database of reported consumer prices, perceived crime rates, and quality of healthcare, among other statistics.

Lahore was ranked 230th out of a total 374 cities of the world in the Numbeo’s survey for Jan 2020. It was placed at 174 in Jan 2019 and moved to 202 with an improvement of 28 places in mid-2019. An increase in a city’s ranking means a drop in its crime rate.

Karachi, the largest city of Pakistan, also improved by 22 places on the list and moved from 66th position to 88th.

An analysis of the last five years of ratings of the two major Pakistani cities revealed that there has been a gradual improvement with each passing year. In 2014, Lahore was placed on 74 and Karachi 6. In mid-2019, Lahore’s position improved to 202 and Karachi’s to 71.

The survey further revealed that Karachi has improved its ranking almost 11 times more since 2014, while Lahore’s improvement tripled.

It also showed that the rating on the World Crime Index by Numbeo has been persistently in the ascending order.

The index showed that in 2014, Lahore was on 74 and Karachi on sixth. In mid-2014, Lahore’s position slipped four places to 70th and Karachi’s improved to eighth.

In 2015, Lahore improved to 89th and Karachi to 10th. In mid-2015, Lahore’s position improved to 96th and Karachi’s to 21th.

In 2016, Lahore observed a slight decrease on WCI to 86th while Karachi improved to 26th. In mid-2016, Lahore was ranked 81st with a decrease of four positions and Karachi witnessed further improvement and fell on 31st.

In 2017, Lahore was ranked 119th and Karachi 47th. In mid-2017, Lahore was graded 114th and Karachi on 50th.

In 2018, Lahore was ranked 138th and Karachi stood in 50th position. In mid-2018, Lahore was declared 173rd and Karachi 62nd in the list.

Senior police officials however have cast doubts over credibility of the index, questioning how a survey could be trusted with only 146 contributors.

Nonsense.

Criminals are rather facilitated in Pakistan. Ask anybody who is privy to Thanna Culture as well as proceedings in Courts.

These matters are far more transparent in Western countries on the other hand.

Don't talk bollocks, you are talking about anecdotes, whereas this survey is giving facts.
You should see some cities in the US, like Baltimore and Chicago, murder capitals.

I will only comment on one point here, they dont have baltimore.

And btw, chicago is bad only at Southside, i graduated from northeast and got robbed once, i worked in southside, got.robbed twice in a day.

Impressive. If survey is showing realistic picture then good job by Punjab Gov.

You do not know shit about these matters in Pakistan, it seems. I suggest you spend some time in the courts in Lahore and schedule interviews with Police officers, lawyers and judges.

These matters are not transparent in Pakistan - not openly recorded in statistics.

In fact, crimes are on the rise in all cities of Punjab in current times. Unemployment is a big problem.

Btw for peoole arguing, read the fine print, this is not a survey ,its "crowdsourced". Look it up, you will feel better.

I wont trust this fwiw.

LoL so you know more than the survey, why don't you get your nose out of uncle Sam's arse and look around once in a while.

What survey? Care to explain its methodology to me and its depth?

I know things in person, and I am not on the payroll of PTI or another agency. I speak my mind about any issue.

PDF is turning into an echo chamber of sorts where some like-minded individuals like to hear things they want to hear. Ground realities are much different unfortunately.

Pakistan is passing through very difficult times and our Law & Order system is a sham. These issues will not diminish overnight.

The only success story of PTI is the Pakistan Citizen Portal - an initiative whose impact is visible on the ground and through testimonials.

Punjab government should also actively promote Lahore as a global hub for culinary arts. Lahore can also become the official capital of arts and culture in Pakistan.

Returned to islamabad last night via the 6pm train and arrived here at just after 11.30pm.
Stayed 5 days in Lahore.
Amazing place. Culture, architecture, food ummmm and Lahori's. Loved Lahore. Loved the Lahori and now need two workout as the food was divine.
If you have not been. Try Andaaz on food street. Expensive (dinner for 2 6000pkr). Spice bazaar very expensive (dinner for two 8000 rupees). But I would eat at both places in a heart beat

Here is a friendly advice: do not be the sheep.

Lahore is not what it used to be. Although its infrastructure has improved over time, it is very polluted and populated now.

Huge population = lot of crimes and issues as well although heavily underreported.

Ok, fine Pakistan as more crime than Sal Salvador, Baltimore, Brownsville, Venezuela, combined. You happy now.
