TOBA TEK SINGH, April 22: Scores of lady health supervisors on Wednesday staged a demonstration against a medical officer of a basic health unit of Kamalia area over his alleged attempt to rape one of their colleagues.
An inquiry committee has already recommended registration of a case against the accused doctor but no action has been taken so far.

On Wednesday, the protesters forcibly entered the office of Punjab rural support health programme adjacent to the office of the district health officer (DHO) and damaged the record. They also ransacked the office and raised slogans against the accused doctor.

Health EDO Dr Masood Iqbal Bukhari reached the spot and assured the protesters that Dr Faheem Ahmad would be externed from the district as an inquiry report had already proven him guilty. After his assurance, the protesters dispersed.

Reports said lady health supervisor Nabila Ali Khan of Chak 714-GB had complained to the DHO that BHU’s medical officer Dr Faheem Ahmad allegedly attempted to rape her and she did not want to perform her duties there. The DHO transferred her to BHU at Chak 706-GB and when she went to present her transfer order to him, he criminally assaulted her.

On her complaint, an inquiry team, comprising Toba ADHO Dr Raja Nasar Iqbal and senior medical officer of Pirmahal Dr Azam Athar Gill, found Dr Faheem guilty. The team recommended registration of a case against the accused, termination from service and cancellation of his registration from PMDC but the delay in implementation forced the female supervisors to launch protest on Wednesday.
