ROKETSAN Market Development and Promotion Director Hüdai Özdamar:

  • Pakistan's ATAK helicopter order includes the supply of UMTAS laser-guided version L-UMTAS.
  • In addition to the negotiations within the scope of ATAK, we are discussing with Pakistan Land Forces [sale of] long-range and medium-range anti-tank missile systems. Our contacts on medium-range anti-tank missiles [OMTAS] have reached a serious level. In Turkey, we have conducted some tests in accordance with the procurement processes and some tests will be done in Pakistan. We are talking about the details of these tests and are planning to perform in 2019.
  • Another issue is the reactive armor of tanks in Pakistan's inventory. Our discussions on this issue also came to a certain stage. Again, we did some tests in Turkey. We will do tests in Pakistan.

L-UMTAS and UMTAS

This is some very juicy news.

ain't no bunker safe enough.

It's worth noting that the AH-1Z deal involved 1,000 ATGMs.

It'd be worth seeing how many are in play for the T129, esp. with the greater numbers and the fact that the AH-1Z deal is unlikely to happen unless the US resumes aid (or Pakistan budges on paying for them via a vendor loan or something).

If we're talking about 2,000 or 3,000 OMTAS ATGM, then I wonder, why not manufacture them under license?

L-UMTAS and UMTAS

What benefit L-UMTAS offer over UMTAS? Later is fire and forget missile.

Cost effective Cirit should also be acquired for low level targets

That missile is also good for ground forces, mounted on vehicles or on tripod.

On LoC it could be very effective weapon.

  • Baktar-Shikan numbers have significantly increased.
  • OMTAS, if inducted, will augment strength of PA anti-tank forces by offering fire-and-forget / top attack capability. It is not intended as a Baktar-Shikan replacement.

Bakter shikan will be work horse like JFT and OMTAS will be front line weapon like F-16s.

OMTAS with lock on after launch and before launch mode, and capability to fire from behind obstacle and can take out targets behind obstacle will be big boost.

It should be successor of Bakhter Shikan in PA inventory in coming future so local production should be considered with possible time to time upgrades.

atgm have become the king of the battlefield within the scope of Syria. I guess having a decent stockpile is desirable so long as it does not fall into wrong hands during a conflict.

When is atak delivery??

Next year, if US approves sale of engines.

What benefit L-UMTAS offer over UMTAS? Later is fire and forget missile.

Both versions have their advantages & disadvantages.

L-UMTAS

Advantages:
  • Cheaper than UMTAS.
  • HE warhead version is suitable for targets like terrorist hideouts & vehicles.
Disadvantage:
  • Being SAL guided, enemy armoured vehicles have many countermeasures available.
UMTAS

Advantages:
  • Fire-and-forget + top attack capability.
  • Fewer countermeasures available with enemy armoured vehicles.
Disadvantage:
  • Costly compared to SAL version.

So the deal is still on and on track ..
Pak asks, the world delivers....

And, it's not per the wishes of the mortals (termed as maggots in the Bible), but by HIS WILL and PERMISSION....

Next year, if US approves sale of engines.
