Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government on Monday has decided to buy helicopters for the protection of forests and prevent tree-cutting.
The helicopters worth Rs25 crore will be bought from the earnings of the forest whereas the fuel and other charges will be borne by the forest department.
Geo-graphic information system will also be utilized for the forest safety.
On the other hand, opposition has declared the decision as ‘wastage of public money.’
In order to make the operation of provincial government effective against timber mafia, 52 motorcycles and 45 mules are also being purchased for the forest department officials.
The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, in the hope that the plantation drive will mitigate climate change, has given its farmers free tree-saplings to plant across the province -- the 150-million-dollar scheme would plant billion trees in the hilly province over the next three years.
The project kicked off in June 2015 and so far millions of saplings have been raised in largely private nurseries across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to be planted across the province.
