Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday announced that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government will extend health insurance to all residents of the province under the Sehat Sahulat Programme.

Addressing the launching ceremony, Prime Minister Imran lauded the initiative and said that the step will "put pressure" on other provinces as well. He said that he will push the idea in Punjab as well, where the PTI is in power and will also suggest the Balochistan government to launch a similar initiative in the province.

Once the populations of the three provinces have access to free healthcare, he said, the people in Sindh will demand the provincial government to introduce a similar programme.

Under the programme, each family will receive health coverage of Rs1 million per year. Both public and private hospitals designated by the programme will provide free treatment to residents of the province. State Life Insurance Corporation, which has been selected after a competitive bidding process, will be paid Rs2,849 per family annually.

The premier, in his address today, lauded the KP government for implementing the scheme and said: "You don't know [the significance] of the step you have taken. You will realise when people send prayers your way."

He noted that the PTI provincial government had implemented the programme despite budgetary constraints.

The prime minister said that the programme will also motivate public-sector hospitals to provide better healthcare facilities in order to compete with private-sector hospitals, which will be offering free treatment under the Sehat Sahulat Programme.

He further said that the government will offer incentives to private hospitals by removing duty charges on imported medical equipment. Furthermore, Auqaf and evacuee trust department will sell land on lower rates to anyone who wishes to build a hospital.

He said that hospitals will also be built in remote areas so that healthcare can be accessible to all citizens.

While health insurance will be available to any resident with an identity card, the prime minister urged the KP government to "encourage everyone to get a health card" so that a proper database can be maintained and pilferage can be avoided.

Wonderful to see this finally implemented. All provinces of Pakistan should follow suit. It will change peoples lives istantly.

.
Will this initiative include a state of the art cardiology hospital coz patients local to punjab find it pretty hard to get appointment in punjab cardiology and in some cases a time period of two to three months is given fur a mere appointment as it's the only functional hospital of heart diseases for like 7-8 crore people and patients as far as from Afghanistan are given preferential treatment.

.
The province was hardest hit in WoT.

It boggles the mind that the government has no therapy programs for the masses displaced amidst horror and terror.

I think with this initiative in place, now is the time for private investors to built Health cities/complexes in every district.

I am worried they wont shift to 100% American model where state facilities slowly give way to complete private enterprises

Agreed, but I also think the federal government should have an adjacent program for sindh as well i.e. to detoxify the brain of bhutto zombies so the rest of Pakistan can welcome them back to civilisation, thus making Pakistan great again.

Well in this system the hospital's will compete against each other so you are rightly worried. But our issue (even if surfaced) won't be on the scale of American issue because

1. We don't have multiple systems of health insurance , just one.

2. Govt provide you insurance instead of private corporations.

3. Govt aim to bring almost all government hospitals under the umbrella of Sehat saholat card.

People will benefit from this model but government facilities will further decline in quality and relevance as people will avoid like the plague and also where woll government employees of state ran hospitals fit in this model if the government is to use a thekedari system ?

Dont get me wrong I support this move and look forward for its deployment in Punjab and Islamabad but there are certain concerns I have about it

Bro even with partial implementation of the system people were waiting 3-4 months for operations/surgeries under the initiative. Now with full implementation the waiting time will increase to 5-6 months atlest. We need to add more govt and private hospitals to the system of this program.

So you are partially right , maybe the quality will decline. But we have many examples to learn from now. I am optimistic we will learn from others failures and won't fail ourselves on this.
