Seoul OK with Aegis deployment
Kyodo
SEOUL — South Korea will not oppose Japan's deployment of Aegis destroyers to waters near the Yellow Sea, a South Korean newspaper reported Monday, citing a high-ranking official at the South Korean president's office.

The official, cited by the Chosun Ilbo, said the South Korean government believes guaranteeing navigational freedom on the high seas near the Yellow Sea, known to Koreans as the West Sea, coincides with South Korea's security interests.

Instability in North Korea since the death of leader Kim Jong Il has led to greater awareness in South Korea of the need to bolster military cooperation with the United States and Japan.

The U.S. has been urging South Korea for years to boost military ties with Japan, and Seoul expects stronger ties with Tokyo would help intelligence-gathering on North Korea.

"Japan has twice as many Aegis destroyers as we do," the report said. "The intelligence data they gather from the West Sea could be of great use."

Seoul (S.Korea), May 24 (Xinhua-ANI) South Korea and Australia will stage their first joint naval exercise next week in waters off South Korea's southern island of Jeju, the South Korean Navy said here Thursday.

The two-day drill beginning next Monday will mobilize some 10 surface warships and submarines, including South Korea's Aegis destroyer "Sejong the Great" and Australia's guided missile frigate "Ballarat."
Dubbed "Haedori-Wallaby," the naval exercise will also involve Lynx anti-submarine helicopters and P-3C patrol aircraft, according to the Navy.
The upcoming drill is the first joint naval maneuver between the two countries since their defense ministers agreed late last year to jointly stage drills on a regular basis.
The exercise will help enhance anti-submarine warfare capabilities and joint interoperability of the naval forces, Navy officials said. (Xinhua-ANI)

NEW DELHI (PTI): On a two month-long goodwill mission to countries in South China sea, a fleet of Indian Naval warships will conduct a joint training exercise with its South Korean counterparts on June 2 in Busan.

Commanded by Eastern Naval Commander Rear Admiral P Ajith Kumar, the fleet, which includes Guided Missile Stealth Frigate INS Shivalik and destroyer INS Rana, sailed-in to a port in Busan in South Korea on May 29, a statement from Indian Embassy in Seoul said on Thursday.

The word is that a US, ROK, and Japan will hold the first tri-nation naval drill in the Yellow Sea next year.

glad to hear and nice to see more cooperation between our countries

Good to see South Korea becoming Japan's colony again. I guess they remember those "good times" huh?

They are actually drilling on the assembly of multi-national naval forces to enforce the blockade of Yellow Sea in the event of Chinese military actions either in North Korea or in the South China Sea. This is why you see Australian and Indian navy drilling in the gate of the Yellow Sea back to back.

Oh, those JMSDF destroyers operating in the Yellow Sea will be providing a sensor feed to Korean military as per the military cooperation agreement, and this was factored in.

I want to explain why I virtually never discuss Japan's or South Korea's military. Technologically, Japan and South Korea have more powerful militaries than India.

However, India has an important advantage over Japan and South Korea. India has strategic depth. It is my belief that once the PLA starts ripping into South Korea, the war will be over in a couple of weeks. However, India is one million square miles and there is a lot of Indians to chase down. It will take forever.

In my opinion, India is a much more formidable military opponent for China. It will be extremely difficult to subdue India. The idea of occupying all those overpopulated Indian cities is a nightmare. However, occupying South Korea is a minor logistics issue. Once you capture Seoul, South Korea has fallen.

Then what about VN army? Why you guys fear VN so much, it's neither so big nor militarily so advance..

It depends on what kind of combat. If it's the PLA ground forces that we are talking about, yes the PLA ground troops will be destroyed in a couple of weeks as the ROK has an extremely powerful ground force specifically designed to battle 1.5 million communist troops, so no one is worried about the PLA ground troops, and the US specifically removed the ground force reinforcement in the second Korean war plan as the ROK ground troops are deemed strong enough to take on the combined NK and PLA troops.

If it is the air war we are talking about, then this is the toughest battle indeed, as the PLAAF would attempt a "plane wave attack" style war of attrition, and this is where the US reinforcement is focused on.

As for the naval battle, the ROK technically doesn't need a large surface destroyer fleet to battle the PLA surface forces, as the ROK has enough advanced antiship missiles and sub fleets to deal with it. What the ROK and other allied surface naval forces are for is the enforcement of the Yellow Sea naval blockade.

So of three combat scenarios, the PLA air war over the Yellow Sea and North Korea is the toughest scenario.

His comrade just pointed it out... they like to live in past.. and some pics which I wouldn't post as of now were a particular reminder of how formidable viet women can be..

Did you read my previous post? Vietnam has strategic depth.

South Korea is a tiny country. Vietnam is a lot bigger. It's 1,000 miles from the north to the south of Vietnam. That will strain the logistics of any occupying army.

Comparison:

Tiny South Korea: 38,000 square miles (e.g. easy to occupy)

Vietnam: 128,000 square miles and very long country (e.g. difficult to occupy)

India: 1,000,000 square miles (e.g. I think it's impossible to occupy). You have to fight the Indians forever or at least spray Agent Orange over their entire country.

Let these weak countries do their circle jerk. When the time comes, we unleash our nukes and make East Asia a safe, peaceful place for China.

you are making non sense, land area isn't that important.

Tiny South Korea: 38,000 square miles (e.g. easy to occupy)
Except that ROK has a world-class military, heavily armed and well-trained.

Vietnam: 128,000 square miles and very long country (e.g. difficult to occupy)
Which would have to resort to VietCong/Taliban style guerrilla warfare against the PLA.

Let these weak countries do their circle jerk. When the time comes, we unleash our nukes
And Beijing/Shanghai gets nuked in return.

and make East Asia a safe, peaceful place for China.
You won't be around to enjoy that post-nuclear holocaust world.
