A farmer turned godman who claimed to cure people through kisses has been arrested in Assam’s Morigaon, police said.
The 31-year-old Ram Prakash Chauhan, christened the ‘Kissing Baba’, was arrested on Wednesday after police took suo moto cognizance of his activities.
“There was no complaint. But we have been seeing his activities,” Jitumani Borah, an Assam police official investigating the case said. “Since he is a local, the villagers were afraid to complain,” he claimed.
Chauhan, who is a farmer, recently took to this “healing” profession.
The young godman, mostly clad in a white vest and a dhoti operated out of the verandah of his mud house in Bhoraltup village where he lives with his parents.
Chauhan is unmarried and has been luring people by claiming to cure them since the last one month.
In a video doing the rounds, he is seen sprinkling water on a man who is lying on his stomach on the floor. Later, he is seen holding a woman by her hair and kissing her.
Chauhan, however, told the local media that he would just blow a kiss.
Chauhan has been arrested under sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 417 (cheating) and 419 (cheating by personation) of the Indian Penal Code, Borah said.
