RIYADH: King Salman and visiting Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov on Wednesday held official talks exploring various aspects of cooperation between Saudi Arabia and the Republic of Bulgaria.

King Salman received the Bulgarian prime minister, who is on his maiden visit to the Kingdom, at his palace. “At the outset of the meeting, the King welcomed the Bulgarian premier and the accompanying delegation to the Kingdom,” SPA reported.

King Salman described the historic visit by the Bulgarian premier that saw the signing of bilateral agreements, as a major step in the development of mutual relations.

Two agreements were signed between Saudi Arabia and Bulgaria in the presence of King Salman and Prime Minister Borisov.

The first agreement was signed for cooperation in the field of agriculture, livestock and fisheries.

It was co-signed by Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Abdul Rahman Al-Fadhli and Bulgarian Minister of Agriculture, Food and Forestry Rumen Porodzanov.

The second agreement, on avoidance of double taxation on income taxes and prevention of tax evasion, was co-signed by Minister of Finance Mohammed Al-Jadaan and Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister for Judicial Reform and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ekaterina Zaharieva.

Borisov was received on Tuesday at the King Salman Airbase by Riyadh Gov. Prince Faisal bin Bandar and Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Abdulrahman Al-Fadli, who is the delegation’s guiding minister.

“A visit of such a high level took place for the first time in the history of bilateral relations between Bulgaria and Saudi Arabia,” said the press service of the Bulgarian government.

The visit is intended to strengthen economic and trade cooperation between the two countries, it added. The agenda of the visit include issues in key areas such as security, energy, trade, transport and tourism.

Prince Sultan bin Salman, president of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage (SCTH) held talks with Bulgarian Minister of Tourism Nikolina Angelkova.

During the meeting, the two leaders discussed various aspects of cooperation in the field of tourism and activation of a cooperation agreement between the two countries which was signed in Sofia, last year.

The Saudi Cabinet, chaired by King Salman, has endorsed the memorandum of understanding for cooperation between the SCTH and the Bulgarian Ministry of Tourism during the Cabinet meeting on Tuesday.

The visiting Bulgarian delegation also includes former premier and ex-monarch Simeon Saxe-Coburg-Gotha as an honorary guest during the visit.

The official Bulgarian delegation also included Deputy Prime Minister for Security Affairs and Defense Minister Krasimir Karakachanov and Minister of Transport, Information Technologies and Communications Ivaylo Moskovski.

RIYADH: King Salman and visiting Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov saw two agreements between their countries signed during official talks on Wednesday when they explored various aspects of economic and trade cooperation.

When I think of Bulgaria I think of the Bulgarian method and the juice that Bulgarian weightlifters were on back in the day, lol.


Anyway always a good thing to enhance relations with countries from the the wider neighborhood.
