King Abdullah donates $1 bln for Gaza - GEO.tv
KUWAIT CITY: Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz on Monday announced the donation of one billion dollars for the reconstruction of Gaza and called for putting an end to Arab differences.

"On behalf of the Saudi people, I declare the donation of one billion dollars for programmes to rebuild Gaza," the Saudi monarch said at the opening session of an Arab summit in Kuwait.

"We have to overcome Arab political differences that led to a division in the Arab ranks which can be exploited by those who want to achieve their regional ambitions" King Abdullah said.

He also warned that the Arab peace initiative "will not remain on the table forever."

Arab leaders are tipped to approve the setting up of a two-billion dollar fund for the reconstruction of Gaza.

Kuwait's ruler Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah announced at the summit's opening his country will donate all 34 million dollars needed by the UN relief agency for refugees, or UNRWA, for its Gaza Strip relief work.

Qatar last week suggested the setting up of a fund for Gaza and donated 250 million dollars.

The donations came a day after fighting stopped in Gaza between Israel and the Islamist movement Hamas, allowing residents to survey the damage from the 22-day war.

Gaza medics said more than 1,300 Palestinians have been killed since the Israeli offensive was launched on December 27. The Jewish state has put its death toll at 13, including three civilians.

so money is supposed to bring the 1300+ palestinians justice? or is it so the arab leaders wont feel guilt for their cowardliness?

i think money is no substitute for the lives that are lost.
something more than just money needs to be done.

Well said, 1 billion is far from enough to cover the material damage ATLEAST.
Even though its "generous", what would've been more generous is that they could've influenced the U.S. or Europe by reducing export of oil or by threatening to cut important ties and especially oil export.
They also have an army very well equipped with American hardware, and what about the Russian T-90 tanks?
It's just way too easy the way this money has been donated right after the ceasefire, cowards.
Billions and billions of dollars are invested in American companies and regions, I can understand, but 1 billion for the Palestinians is far from enough, infact, it can in no way repair the damage that has been done to the Palestinians, and to the torned image of the Arab nations.

There's a Palestinian in the video who says, and i quote "We don't want anything from the Arabs. But at least provide us with guns and ammunition to fight our own problem"

Money isn't going to substitute for anything. Palestinians don't want to rebuild their house only if it would be bombed back to the ground by the Israelies in the future.

Generous gesture and donation

BUT

KSA did not call for ending Arab differences and was virtually mum when hundreds were killed everyday. They did not exert any pressure on west. Now all the sudden 1 billion should make difference specially when Gaza is under seize and blockaded by Israel. Palestinians would not able to use this money as they ar under seize.

Saudi king must have spoken to some gullible crowd.
