PPP leader Khursheed Shah, during Thursday's National Assembly session, lashed out at Prime Minister Imran Khan over the premier's address to the nation on Asia Bibi's acquittal by the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

"I strongly condemn the prime minister's address to the nation. The chief executive of the state should not have said what he said," remarked Shah, adding that he could not even "repeat" parts of PM Khan's speech.

Last night, following the sharp reaction from Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) after Asia Bibi's acquittal, PM Khan in a short address to the nation regretted that the demonstrators had termed the chief justice “liable to be killed”.

Declaring that the elements inciting people against the judiciary and army just to enlarge their vote bank were not serving the cause of Islam, the premier had warned the groups that had mounted protests to desist from confronting the state.
Shah on Thursday said that the PM had repeated the words uttered by the leaders of TLP, which were not shown by the media. "The kind of language used against institutions cannot be repeated."

"He [PM Khan] told the whole world what the media was hiding; it was good that media was not showing all this [protests] as they have the sense that it will not be good for the country. But social media is showing everything".

Further criticising PM Khan over his address, Shah said that yesterday, the tone of the premier was aggressive.

"There was violence in his tone. You cannot bring peace with this tone," he added.

The former opposition leader asked PM Khan to come to the parliament prior to his trip to China. The premier is scheduled to depart tonight.

In reply, Federal Minister for Higher Education Shafqat Mahmood called Shah's speech full of hypocrisy.

"Khursheed Shah condemned Imran Khan's speech but did not condemn those people who are challenging the writ of the state," pointed out Mahmood. "Instead of praising the prime minister for taking a bold stand, he is criticising him."

"The prime minister is not in the house but yesterday, he addressed 200 million people of this country directly. I condemn Khursheed Shah for using this matter for small political gains.

"Imran khan has categorically stated that the writ of the state would be established at any cost. It is duty of the government to implement the top court's verdicts. Yet, people are doing politics over the court's verdict," said Mahmood.

On his turn, PML-N leader Khawaja Saad Rafique agreed with Shah over the PM's 'tone', saying: "We believe that Imran Khan's body language and tone was aggressive during his address."

"Today, you [PM Khan] are saying that blocking roads is not an appropriate action but yesterday, you were giving calls to the people to block roads and lock down cities."

According to Rafique, "the religious card which had been used by the PTI against the previous PML-N government" was now being used against the former.

The NA session has been adjourned for a break. Leader of the Opposition Shahbaz Sharif is also in attendance

opposition just condemns just for the sake of it no matter how much stupid they look

our Parliament assembly is useless forum seriously, hardly anything constructive has been discussed there ...IK did the right thing, not to attend the house when he was in opposition ..should maintain the same policy ..wastage of time..just attend the session when really important

Chutia ka bacha harami.
what else do you expect from these opportunists? Every mistake made by govt..will be exploited by the oppostition..Pakistani Politics 101. So the govt should use wisdom... talking all tough looks good and pleases certain segments but it does not resolve the situation... now damage is being done to the common man which is really shameful.

This munafiq would've praised if same and even stronger speech was given by Bilawal.

Imran Khan speech was a bad idea. A bad and dumb ploy long-term. This was SC decision, he should've remained away from it and tried to use his position back door to resolve and address them.

Some biased people will praise the same way they praised Ahsan Iqbal when PML-N pushed him ahead to make strong statements during Faizabad dharna. And he was shot later. PML-N lost few MPAs due to their stance before general election.

PTI has plenty of MPAs who would've played a positive role and worked as a bridge.

Exactly, IK with that speech put the bell on his own neck and stupidly enough for the judiciary who has been creating troubles for his govt. Now IK has a disobedient judiciary, a mean opposition and huge mass of masses protesting against him... Does he need enemies like Fazlur Rehman..I think no..he is self-sufficient.

IK did the right thing. This meter reader is not used to someone addressing the people for the people, he is only used to prostrating in front of his master and in return wishes the common people to do the same for him.

taking advantage of the situation, do you expect anything visionary from this "Paliya ment" guy?

What difference would had it been between Nawaz Sharif and him than ? didn't Nawaz just used to do that by attacking Army and courts 'indirectly' for a pay back time. IK's only position is to take the control and responsibility of the situation, if he is a powerful PM.

Do you really want him to stay in power as a weak leader ? Whats wrong with you guys ? Supreme Court is doing right ..and it is good in a longer term...some of PTI's ministers are nothing different than PMLN/PPP.

No, on the contrary, I want him to be strong and independent but for that, he has to do home work and be prepared to deal with all kinds of situations. For example, Asad Umar has largely mishandled the economic situation...He used to appear as an intellectual and a professional but after becoming the finance minister, he has not done anything impressive and put the whole burden on the people because he didn't do the home work in advance. Now IK has to personally get involved and secure the deals with friendly nations and things are running a late.

LMAO, PM IK doesn't need any praise or condemnation certification from ignorant Dr Shahid Masood aka liar and an extremist Orya Maqbool. Only idiots watch their programs.

Remember, Army establishment would had noted whether their PM is with them or not when someone was calling them as kafirs and wajib ul qatul. I am sure Nawaz would had remained silent.
