No, it will be as before - both countries will work together where there national interests align, and will continue to work against each other where they are in conflict.

To say this "exactly" how americans planned is just way over the top, and once must ask, who do you mean when you say "Americans"? The government and the military, the people in government and military who profited from this invasion, the weapons manufacturers, the country as whole? For some of these its a hit, for some it's an utter failure and while they knew they had to leave with Bush "mission accomplished" style, the last few weeks did hit everyone with a surprise. US and its stature as the sole superpower has surely compromised further that will have a long term effect.
Finally when you say Imran Khan was is clueless in this context, what do you think would have been a better answer to question about US politicians literally talking nonsense? It is exactly how IK describes it, ignorant and nonsense or would you have him praise their in depth knowledge of the Haqqanis and the brilliant claims and statements theyve been making publicly? It's something that even an ultra nationalist Americans may hesitate to claim today.
