Unfortunate but economic disparity and government apathy have forced people to accept this 'medieval' practice to propagate. Religion at the end of the day lost its true meaning.

There is areason for our third world status.And striking reality is such things are even run like a block buster in so called developed kerala

I didn't mean it in a offensive way. A lot of keralites works as labourers under the scorching sun.

Also more North-Easterners now In Kerala cities than I thought. Especially Cochin.

They are easy going, and keep to themselves.

Plenty of criticisms for the present precariousness do stand valid against the communists( except the land reform movement in both the states and staying away from identity politics) but economic declination already started to happen at least for ten years before the communists came into power. Economic stagnation started with the partition of Bengal and then the gradual drop in jute demand made it quick. When the left government started to emulate the 'China module' our dear Didi adopted the hardcore Maoist module to oppose it. The communists are definitely to be blamed but over all it was lack of foresightedness of the planners to overlook the imminent.
