Informed sources said Faesal was likely to join the National Conference and fight the Lok Sabha election from Baramulla in the Kashmir Valley.
Kashmiri Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Shah Faesal on Wednesday said he had quit the coveted service to protest against unabated killings in Jammu and Kashmir and against the marginalization of Indian Muslims by Hindutva forces, "reducing them to second class citizens".

Faesal made the announcement on his Twitter page as news of his decision spread.

"To protest unabated killings in Kashmir and the absence of any credible political initiative from Union government, I have decided to resign from IAS. Kashmiri lives matter," he said.

He said he would address a press conference on Friday.

After topping the civil service exam in 2010, Faesal was allotted the home cadre of Jammu and Kashmir. He served as District Magistrate, Director of School Education and Managing Director of the state-owned Power Development Corporation.

He recently returned from the US where he had gone on a Fulbright fellowship from Harvard Kennedy School.

Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullahconfirmed Faesal's decision to join politics. Abdullah tweeted: "Bureaucracy's loss is politics' gain. Welcome to the fold."

Informed sources said Faesal was likely to join the National Conference and fight the Lok Sabha election from Baramulla in the Kashmir Valley.

Faesal also issued a detailed statement outlining the reasons for his decision.

"To protest against the unabated killings in Kashmir, and lack of any sincere reach-out from the Union government;

"The marginalization and invisiblization of around 200 million Indian Muslims at the hands of Hindutva forces, reducing them to second class citizens;

"Insidious attacks on the special identity of Jammu and Kashmir and growing culture of intolerance and hate in mainland India in the name of hyper nationalism, I have decided to resign from the Indian Administrative Service.

"I wish to remind the regime of the day that subversion of public institutions like RBI, CBI and NIA has the potential to decimate the Constitutional edifice of this country and it needs to be stopped.

"I wish to reiterate that voices of reason in this country cannot be muzzled for long and the environment of siege will need to end if we wish to usher in true democracy.

"I am thankful to my family, friends and well-wishers for supporting me in this amazing journey in IAS. One of my important tasks hereafter will be to train and guide aspiring civil servants to help them in achieving this dream."

Indians are going wild against this guy now

Indian social media is lit:rofl:

.
It is quite normal...2019 will be an election season in India....Just because he is an Muslim and from Kashmir valley, he is getting visibility in media...Otherwise, these kind of movement from professional life to politics is quite common in India....If rumors are true, He is participating in election in J&K.

death by a thousand cuts. this cut is one of the many many more cuts to slice and dice india.

I am not sure, if you are aware about Kashmir situation in 1987-1992...Trust me, i have seen the worst period of Kashmir separatism in those periods....Nothing can be worst than those situation that has been taken care by Indian Gov...
If you feel these minor irritants are any cause of concern for India, then you are wrong....That is why, you do not see much response to those incidents in mainstream media from India nor in Pakistan too....

I respect your sentiment...But overall the separatist movement and intensity is highly localised around valley and its surrounding districts..

Personal ambition has again triumphed over the will to do something for society.
In India the masters are the civil servants. The politicians are at the mercy of the civil servants who can fail any initiative by poor implementation on the ground. And they are entrenched, uneffected by govt changes.
This guy had the chance to make real changes on the ground. But now he will be just another politician hankering for power and its dividends.

I blame the civil service and media for this. They unduly gave too much importance to him and it went to his head. Should have been treated like just another fresher.

The party he is joining is known for playing golf rather than doing anything useful for kashmir. It's not as if he has joined the militants, and is asking for azadi. And if he really wanted to hurt India, what would be better than as a high level officer with Questionable loyalties ?
Its just self preservation and cashing his public profile.
Kejriwal is another example of a civil servant who resigned and became a CM.

Ah, so he's irrelevant as the rest of the indian politicians as far as kashmiris are concerned...

Politicians are nearly never useful anywhere. The best politicians can do is not be a nuisance.
In many parts of the world esp ours, religion trumps reason.
All the growth in India,, eg in IT, since the 90s is due to absence of political interference.
