Jammu and Kashmir will open for tourists from Thursday two months after an advisory was issued asking tourists to leave the Valley due to “terror threat”.

The decision to lift the curb was announced by the governor Satya Pal Malik on Monday following a “situation-cum-security review” meeting with the advisers and the chief secretary.

The Centre had, on August 2, cancelled the Amarnath Yatra and advised pilgrims and tourists to cut short their stay in the Valley “immediately” in view of the “intelligence inputs of terror threats”, days before the revocation of Article 370 that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

In another move, the administration re-opened higher secondary schools, colleges and universities on Wednesday.

In Srinagar, security forces were stationed outside the prestigious Sri Pratap College and were allowing students on the campus after checking their identity cards. “I came here to get the study material and not to attend the classes. The teachers told us that the classes can only start once the situation becomes normal,” said a chemistry student, who did not wish to be named.

Restrictions, imposed in the aftermath of Centre’s August 5 move to abrogate Article 370 and bifurcate Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, have been lifted in phases in the past two months. But a shutdown against the government’s move continues while mobile and internet services remain largely blocked.

National Conference president Farooq Abdullah and his son Omar Abdullah were allowed to meet party delegation in Srinagar on October 6. The Abdullahs along with PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti have been in detention since August.

The administration has also decided to hold Block Development Council elections on October 24, the first electoral process in Jammu and Kashmir since August 5.

The Congress, however, has decided to boycott these elections citing the continued detention of political leaders. “The Congress believes in strengthening democratic institutions and it has never shied away from any polls. But today, we are compelled to take a decision to boycott the BDC polls due to the indifferent attitude of the state administration and the continued detention of senior party leaders in the Valley,” J&K Congress chief Ghulam Ahmed Mir said

Hindustan Times is a pure comedy of a read. Every time without fail. The article says that essentially nothing has changed except a ski resort is open and senior students are collecting work.

Those who are incarcerated are still incarcerated. The Valley is still locked down. The internet is still blocked.

Yet a ski resort is open and work is being collected! Normalcy!

Kashmir Valley: open for tourists but closed for the international press.

Fkin geniuses at Hindustan Times are probably some of the folks who post on this forum.

Just curious, if an indian hindu girl elope with a Kashmiri Muslim, how indians will react?
What nonsense! They will be thrilled as it means the Hindu gets land ownership rights in Kashmir. This is precisely what Delhi wants. By precisely such intrigues will kashmiri men and women be deprived of their land. But I suspect Kashmiris are not so stupid as to fall for such an obvious trap.

So they will not scream love jihad?

And Kashmiris should be vigilante about their state. Indians are poisonous snake...

Nice to see that you aren't screaming love jihad.

BTW, your friend is everything but a Muslim. Marriage with idol worshiper is haram in Islam.

Anyways good luck to them...

You think bhaktistanis really care about the sanctity of Hindu females? They exploit their own females. When a Muslim male elopes with a Hindu female, it is an opportunity for bhakts to trigger a riot against Muslims. That is the only outcome they want.

In the example you mentioned, the Hindu conquest of Kashmir takes precedence. Though this wouldn't be their preferred method, they would accept it, and the cries of "love jihad" would be diminished assuming the kashmiri family willingly welcomes the new in-laws and land rights for the new in-laws are part of the deal.

Makes sense...

Those pro Iraq protests in Kargil were fake?

What about the claims of Pakistani shelling by Indian diplomats?

Trump says valley is filled with guns and bombs brought in by RSS Nazis

Indians are great at deceiving themselves. Show 1 white-skinned visitor (who may well be living in India since years) and claim tourism is back booming, and when there is nothing else to talk about, brag about the "quality of snow" maybe!

Show one image of snow-clad winter and another image of summer with 4 people to legitimise your claims.

Just like Doval was eating Biryani on the streets..... only thing camera didn’t capture was hundreds of rapists and killer soldiers of Indian army protecting him. Cheap propaganda ...

people are visiting kashmir . :D

depends on age of boy and girl .
any adult muslim or hindu girl is free to marry with boy of his choice according to civil marriage act .
