Mr Mahmood, Labour MP for Perry Barr, said: "I'm absolutely worried about community tensions boiling over in the UK.
"If we don't look at and heed the messages, there will be issues."

Speaking to BBC Two's Newsnight, he said: "Boris Johnson has done absolutely nothing.
"He doesn't see the strength [of feeling] people have across the country. And it's not just people from a south east Asian background.
"It's people from the United Kingdom who were born and bred here, who believe that the issue of human rights is very important to them."
Earlier this week, Birmingham City Councillor Majid Mahmood called for a boycott of goods imported from India.
He said: "People are disgusted with what has happened and the stance of the Indian Government. We are calling for solidarity from the international community and want to see pressure exerted on Prime Minister Modi over his actions.
"Locally we are urging everyone to boycott Indian goods, including watching Bollywood films and unsubscribing from Indian TV channels - anything that could impact on the Indian economy."

The Indian government has revoked Kashmir's special status, in a move seen by some as an attempt to annex Kashmir.
The controversial move by India’s Hindu nationalist prime minister, Narendra Modi, has led to fears of widespread unrest and paralysed normal life as tens of thousands of extra troops and security personnel were dispatched to add to the estimated 500,000 already present, making it one of the world’s most militarised zones.
Politicians of all parties have joined to press Boris Johnson to stand with Kashmir and condemn India's revocation of Article 370.
