Birmingham MP Khalid Mahmood has warned he is worried the situation in Kashmir is promoting tension between communities here in the United Kingdom.

Mr Mahmood, Labour MP for Perry Barr, said: "I'm absolutely worried about community tensions boiling over in the UK.

"If we don't look at and heed the messages, there will be issues."

Speaking to BBC Two's Newsnight, he said: "Boris Johnson has done absolutely nothing.

"He doesn't see the strength [of feeling] people have across the country. And it's not just people from a south east Asian background.

"It's people from the United Kingdom who were born and bred here, who believe that the issue of human rights is very important to them."

Earlier this week, Birmingham City Councillor Majid Mahmood called for a boycott of goods imported from India.

He said: "People are disgusted with what has happened and the stance of the Indian Government. We are calling for solidarity from the international community and want to see pressure exerted on Prime Minister Modi over his actions.

"Locally we are urging everyone to boycott Indian goods, including watching Bollywood films and unsubscribing from Indian TV channels - anything that could impact on the Indian economy."

The Indian government has revoked Kashmir's special status, in a move seen by some as an attempt to annex Kashmir.

The controversial move by India’s Hindu nationalist prime minister, Narendra Modi, has led to fears of widespread unrest and paralysed normal life as tens of thousands of extra troops and security personnel were dispatched to add to the estimated 500,000 already present, making it one of the world’s most militarised zones.

Politicians of all parties have joined to press Boris Johnson to stand with Kashmir and condemn India's revocation of Article 370.

intermarriage between muslims is ok, with Hindu is like slapping you mother on the face.

.
Nikah is not allowed between Muslim and Hindu
not all of india are hindu! I thought we were talking about Pakistan vs india not Islam vs Hindu

I am talking about indian Muslims and Pakistani Muslims...Same with Kashmiri Muslims from indian side and Kashmir muslims from Pakistan side

I believe they should be more concerned about Sikhs for Khalistan and Indians...that can get violent.

This guy is just looking for air time. People get along because it is in everyones best interests. This is not the wild west where you will cow lynching and nothing will happen. Gunda gardi = jail time.

Besides people in the UK are work orientated. No Indian shopkeeper or call centre worker is occupying Kashmir. Of course there will be people who support those policies and if they express brazen support for them, might face consequences. Anything can happen in the heat of the moment, but nothing communal.

Besides, we have the numbers and the gangsters.

Relax then. Indian Muslims living abroad are not that pro India much
British walay are a mix

He is actually inserting pressure ...they need a case to exert it!

A pipsqueak of a country like Britain and its PM - our boy Boris - isn't in a position to 'act' over anything that India does.

America can. But the guy currently in charge there can't find India, nay, Asia on a map. Khalid would be better off directing his efforts to OPEC to ban oil supplies to India. See if he can get Amir al-Mu'minin, MBS of KSA on board with the program.
