Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has stressed the longstanding Kashmir dispute should be resolved on the basis of UN Security Council resolutions and bilateral dialogue process and agreements.
While addressing the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi said “China, as a neighbour of Kashmir region, wants effective resolution of the matter and improving ties between neighbouring countries i.e. India and Pakistan.”
He also said the dispute was a contentious issue in Kashmir's history.
China opposes any one-sided measures which creates complications in the situation, he added.
The Chinese Foreign Minister emphasized that the Kashmir issue should be resolved in a fair and peaceful manner based on UN Charter, UN Security Council resolutions and bilateral agreements.
Meanwhile, Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Muhammad also demanded resolution of the Kashmir issue during his address to the UN General Assembly.
