LAHORE:
India has proposed tentative dates for talks with Pakistani officials to finalise matters pertaining to the Kartarpur Corridor ahead of Baba Guru Nanak’s anniversary in November.

New Delhi has suggested July 11-14 for talks on the Pakistani side of Wagah border, wherein officials shall elaborate on a draft agreement to facilitate the movement of Sikh pilgrims and resolve outstanding technical issues related to the corridor’s alignment and infrastructure.

The Kartarpur crossing will link Dera Baba Nanak in Indian Punjab with Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan.

The development comes after Indian authorities postponed the second meeting over the inclusion of pro-Khalistan activists in a Pakistani committee to facilitate Sikh pilgrims.

Earlier, the two countries held technical level talks at the site on April 16. A senior official said there was no delay on Pakistan’s part.

Pakistan conveys schedule to India for 2nd meeting on Kartarpur Corridor

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Tuesday conveyed to India that the second meeting to discuss the draft agreement for finalizing the modalities of Kartarpur Corridor and related technical issues will be held on 14th July 2019 at Wagah.

According to the statement issued by the ministry of foreign affairs, the Indian side has been requested to convey the composition of its delegation.

The statement added “Pakistan remains committed to expedited progress on the matter to ensure that the Corridor is operationalized in time for the 550th birth anniversary celebrations of Baba Guru Nanak in November 2019.”

Pakistan completes 80pc work on Kartarpura Corridor

SIALKOT-Pakistan has completed almost 80 percent work of Kartarpura Corridor as construction of the bridge over River Ravi, main road (from Zero Line to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur-Shakargarh) and the buildings around the Gurdwara have been completed.

Hopefully, Pakistan will complete the project before its final deadline to launch Kartarpura Corridor in November 2019, on the eve of 550th birthday anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak.

Prime Minister Imran Khan had laid the foundation stone of the grand project on November 28, 2018 during a prestigious ground breaking ceremony held at Kartarpura.

According to the pact, both Pakistan and India will facilitate the Sikh community around the globe for their visa-free entry in Pakistan from Gurdaspur-India to Kartarpur-Shakargarh (Pakistan), enabling the Sikhs to visit Gurdwara Darbar Sahib through Kartarpura Corridor between Pakistan and India.

Some contractors, working on the mega project, told the newsmen that construction of the basic infrastructure was 100 percent completed.

The engineers said that about 70 percent construction of Langar Khana, Darshan Khana, washrooms and Admin Block had been completed in and around Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur. They added that wiring was underway for water, gas and electricity supplies.

The officials added that the NESPAK engineers were also working to preserve Baba Jee Ka Kunwaan (The Well of Baba Jee) and ancient mango tree in the courtyard of the Gurdwara.

Caretaker of Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur Sardar Gobind Singh said that expansion of the Gurdwara building, Langar Hall and gates had been completed. He said that Gurdwara would be opened for all Sikh Yatrees from across the world.

Second round of talks on Kartarpur corridor to take place tomorrow at Wagah

The second round of talks on the Kartarpur corridor will take place on July 14 at Wagah, Lahore.

Spokesperson Foreign Office Dr Mohammad Faisal will lead the Pakistani delegation in talks. Both the sides will discuss the draft agreement for finalizing the modalities of Kartarpur Corridor.

The first meeting on the Kartarpur corridor was held on 14th March.

More than 80% consensus with India on Kartarpur Corridor: Pakistan

Briefing media at Wagah on Sunday, he said that consensus have been reached on 80 percent issues regarding Kartarpur Corridor, whereas rest of the issues will also be resolved during future talks.

Dr Faisal said that specific details will be shared with public after the agreement is finalised.

He said that the purpose of opening the corridor is establishing peace in the region.

Earlier, before resumption of talks Dr. Mohammad Faisal said that under Prime Minister's direction and promise, Pakistan is fully committed for materializing Kartarpur Sahib Corridor into reality for 550th birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

He said that work on Pakistan side is proceeding speedily with more than 70 percent of Gurdwara Complex, Terminal Building and road completed.

Pakistan has decided to allow 5000 pilgrims per day.

The Spokesperson said in line with Prime Minister Khan's commitment to operationalize the corridor for the 550th anniversary and spirit of constructive engagement, taking into account the sentiments of the sikh community, Pakistan has decided to allow 5000 pilgrims per day (to be increased as capacity allows) throughout the year except for closure on administrative or other basis which will be informed in advance.

He said to further facilitate the Pilgrims, Pakistan is building walkways to permit travel by foot from the start.

Pilgrims may travel individually or in groups, preferably of 15 people each.

He said the technical experts of both sides also discussed technical details of the corridor, including the alignment and other details of the proposed corridor.

Pakistan agreed to the Indian request to construct a bridge in the second phase after the 550 anniversary celebrations.

The bridge will be constructed in phase 2 due to time constraints with a creek pathway constructed in the interim period.

The Pakistan delegation planted a sapling to commemorate the spirit of cooperation and friendship of Pakistan's Kartarpur Initiative.

He said that work on Pakistan side is proceeding speedily with more than 70 % of Gurdwara Complex, Terminal Building and Road completed.

What are the security checks & measures?

What is the fee of 15 people group or individual?

Fee is must in order to put the records of yatri using computerized system and to maintain that system. But I heard that Pakistan will not take a penny/fee from yatris, is that true?

They will be allowed to visit Pakistan in groups of at least 15 persons. Indian government will provide list of the pilgrims to Pakistan at least three days in advance.

According to the proposal, both the countries will set up facilitation centres and check posts on their own sides. Gurdwara Darbar Sahib will remain open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Both the countries will also maintain record of the Sikh pilgrims which will include name, address and travelling record.
