Kargil war was Musharraf's adventure: Gen (r) Ziauddin - PakTribune
LAHORE: Kargil war was merely an adventure of Gen Pervez Musharraf and all involved in it were still alive and must be put on trial, Gen (r) Ziauddin Khawaja said.
He was speaking at a conference organised by Pakistan Visionary Forum at TECH Society Club on Sunday.
Khawaja said that the Army takeovers benefited neither the army nor the country. He said wars were not a solution to any problem. All issues should be solved on table, he added.
The former general stressed on the need for allowing democratic system to flourish and winning wars through communication power and argument. Khawaja said that democratic system helps to improve communication skills, and winning wars through dialogue could only be learnt through democracy.
Citing the example of 1965 war, he said that former military ruler and president Ayub Khan was overpowered by Lal Bahadur Shastri on the negotiating table in Tashkant. It was because Ayub was a dictator and Shastri had been groomed up by the democratic system, he added.
Khawaja further said that in 1965 war, people's morale and passion, especially that of youth, was very high and armed forces were accorded all-out public support, which did not let the Army show any laxity. Pakistan won that war at tactical level but on strategic level, the country was completely paralysed, he added.
Khawaja said that at present, the enemies of the country were resorting to sending provocateurs, who carry out barbaric actions, like decapitating of the captured soldiers and showing them on the media. He opined that the country was facing serious threats. It was, however, never advisable to get provoked, he added. Khawaja said that it was now a time to invest in strategic weapons as India has been doing it since long.
