KARACHI: At least 11 people have been killed and 30 injured in violence that erupted in Karachi after unidentified gunmen opened fire on a rally organised by the Awami Tehreek and banned Peoples Amn Committee (PAC) in Karachi on Tuesday.

The protestors were rallying against the proposed Mohajir province and operation in Lyari.

Awami Tehreek President Ayas Palijo, in a press conference, said that the police left the areas as soon as firing began and the PPP “stood there, watching Sindhis being killed”.

“I thank PML-N and Jamaat-e-Islami who supported us in the protest,” he added.

He further warned that every drop of blood that was shed in today’s riots will be avenged, “not from innocent Urdu-speaking people, but from terrorists”.

Palijo also said that he had received text messages last night from a certain party which threatened of repeating the May 12 scenario today during the protest.

According to Express News correspondent Wasiq Muhammad, around 80% of the trapped people in areas near Napier Road have been rescued.
A cameraman and a reporter of a private TV channel were injured during the ongoing violence.
Rangers have partially controlled the situation in the Lea market area.

Injured are being taken to hospitals on motorcycles, in rickshaws and private cars.
Ambulances are unable to reach the affected areas due to massive traffic jam.
Most of the injured admitted in the Civil hospital are in critical condition.

Rangers sources said that targeted operations will be conducted in the affected area
Firing incidents reported in various areas of the city.
Rangers have rescued around 20 shop-keepers trapped in the area between Denso Hall and Lea market.
Employees of different banks located at the Napier Road are still trapped inside their offices.

Firing incidents reported in the Lea market area. Four hand grenades were also thrown near the Baghdadi Police Station in Lyari.
Rangers have been called in to control the situation. Rangers arrested three suspects, recovered TT pistols from them.
Six shops, eight cars and nine motorcycles have been torched so far.

After the attack, the protest turned violent and five cars and few motorbikes were burned down. Police present in the area have failed to control the situation.
The injured have been shifted to a local hospital.

Shops in the area were shut down after few shops were set on fire. The fire brigades, which were initially prevented from entering the affected area, have now managed to control the fire.
Business activities have come to a halt in the area.

Among others, Awami Tehreek’s Ayaz Latif Palijo, Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) leader Marvi Memon and Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz leader Qamar Bhatti participated in the rally.
The Awami Tehreek and PAC jointly organised the rally which began in Lyari will end at the Karachi Press Club.

According to sources, containers were set up to stop the rally at Shaheen Complex. Authorities said the rally will not be allowed entry into the red zone.

Earlier, Awami Tehreek’s Anwar Soomro invited ANP’s provincial chief to participate in the rally.
He said that his party had also invited Jamaat-e-Islami, Tehreek-e-Insaf, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Sindh United Party, Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party, Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz, Sindh National Party, Sindh National Movement to join them.

Firing on Karachi rally leaves 10 dead


KARACHI: At least ten people were killed and more than 20 people were injured on Tuesday as unidentified armed assailants opened fire at a rally in Karachi, DawnNews reported.

The rally was organised by members and workers of Awami Tehrik Party in protest of the proposed Mohajir province and the recent police operation in Lyari.

The participants were staging a sit-in protest from II Chundirigar Road to Pan Mandi when the firing took place. Traffic in adjoining areas had been blocked due to the protest.

Protestors torched six cars and three motorcycles whereas incidents of sporadic firing were also reported in different areas of old city, after the initial attack on the rally.

Ayaz Palijo claimed that four activists from his party were also injured during the firing.

He also said that his party will stage a sit-in protest till the culprits behind the attack are caught.

Marvi Memon, Abdul Hai Baloch and other politicians were also reported to be present during the rally.

there was, I saw on tv. however this was basically anti that... hence obvious firing on it.
 
Karachi descends into violence; 11 killed, scores injured

KARACHI: At least 11 people were killed and more than 30 injured as violence erupted in several parts of the old city following firing on Awami Tehreek's 'Mohabbat Sindh' rally, Geo News reported.

Unknown armed men opened fire on the rally when it reached old city area. Hospital sources have confirmed receiving 11 dead bodies and many injured.

A reporter and a cameraman of a private news channel were among the injured. Several shops and vehicles have also been set ablaze by the miscreants.

DIG South Shaukat Ali told Geo news that a search operation was underway in the areas from where the rally was attacked and the situation was under control.

A woman killed during the clashes was later identified as Ghazala Batool, an employee of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).

Firing continues in the Lee Market, Pan Mandi and Bolton markets areas of the city.

All the roads towards Sindh Governor House and Chief Minister House had been closed with containers at the Shaheen Complex since noon ahead of the Mohabbat Sindh rally.

The Awami Tehreek (AT) and the People’s Amn Committee (PAC) had decided to bring out a rally from Cheel Chowk, Lyari, on Tuesday and to gather outside the Karachi Press Club (KPC), where the participants were to be addressed by President AT Ayaz Latif Palijo and Chairman PAC Uzair Jan Baloch.

Karachi has been neglected intentionally in PPP era. Look at Mush era how peaceful Karachi was. A city of more than 20 million(excluding illegals), generating 70% revenue of the country have no proper Police force & security systems, pathetic.

If they can create Bahawalpur Province & Seraikistan Province than most urgently needed is South Sindh Province, why not willing to debate on that.
