Karachi: Rangers to remove barriers around Bilawal House

KARACHI: Paramilitary Rangers have decided to remove barriers around Bilawal House, the residence of former president Asif Ali Zardari, ARY News reported on Friday.

The Rangers have decided to set aside the barriers in Karachi obstructing the public movement in the metropolis. The paramilitary agency has recently removed obstacles from the residence of former president Pervez Musharraf in General Colony of Karachi.

The home department of Sindh had written a letter that the barriers around Bilawal House should not be removed due to security concerns to the former president and People’s Party Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari.

According to sources, the Rangers authorities have prepared a response to the home department letter. The Rangers reply said that no one will be allowed to create hurdles at public places and close key roads and streets.

Rangers letter said that for security of Bilawal House closure of the entire road has been unlawful and urged for removal of the barriers to open the road for public movement.

The correct position then is to do away with the charade of democracy & give power to the army. Why bother with elections at all if you simply place no value on the people you elect.

# The army helps during floods & the common refrain is that "the government did nothing, only the army did"....
- In most other states the army is an organ of the state & is part of the government response.

# Only in Pakistan can the army negotiate with the elected government on intervention when the government is being put under siege

Theres already a decison of Supreme court or Sindh high court( dont remember exactly) in 2013 regarding removing barriers from such places including bilawal bouse

Actually those barriers go against decision of SHC which already told the KMC to remove all kinds of encroachments from public spaces, roads, parks, footpaths etc so the Rangers do, in fact, have legal cover to remove these barriers. Word from the Home dept was a request not an order so there's no one disobeying the other.

That would be the forum where the matter should be decided, not at the office of the Rangers. It is the business of the government to comply with any such directive, not for any paramilitary police force to do so unless directly charged.

Rangers hav already been given policing powers in karchi by provincial and fed govt.. To remove barriers from the city is complying with orders of court

Rangers has the mandate to remove 'No go areas' in Karachi as well as to remove blockades like this, IIRC there's a supreme court ruling on this so its well within their rights.
