Textile City to be launched in July, NA body told
Sunday, May 25, 2014 - Karachi—Pakistan Textile City (PCT) project will be launched in July 2014 and very good response is expected from the industrialists.
This was informed by Chairman PCT, Dr. Mirza Ikhtiar Baig during his comprehensive presentation to National Assembly’s standing committee on textile industry at a meeting here, which was chaired by Haji Muhammad Akram Ansari, a press release issued said. The 15-member committee reviewed the progress in work on Pakistan Textile City.
Dr. Mirza Ikhtiar Baig said that Pakistan Textile City is a dedicated textile industrial zone spreading over an area of 1250 acres of land near Port Qasim. The vision behind this project is to develop and operate value-added textile industries.
He briefed the NA body that the company has arranged 50 MW uninterrupted power supply from K-Electric and adequate water supply. SSGC has also approved gas supply to the project for generation but PTC has requested SSGC to allow use of the gas for dual purpose-generation of power and operation of boilers in textile units. The case is with the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources for approval by Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, he said.
Dr. Baig informed that National Bank of Pakistan has also approved additional financing of Rs 1.165 billion to meet the balance expenditures of the project. The standing committee members assured that they would take up the matter with Prime Minister and hoped to get the approval for the dual use of gas supply by SSGC soon.
Dr. Baig said that keeping in view the strategic location of the textile city which is near the port, better infrastructure and law and order situation, the value added textile sector operators have shown keen interest.
Chairman of NA standing committee on textile industry complemented Dr. Mirza Ikhtiar Baig for getting resolved the issues of the project in a short time. He also assured the committee’s full cooperation for the early launch and success of the project which will not only provide 80,000 jobs but would also enhance exports and revenues to the national exchequer.— APP
