KARACHI: Karachi continues to be the largest city of Pakistan as it contributes more than 60 percent to the national exchequer. Karachi deserves to be respected and should get its rightful share keeping in view the massive revenue being generated by this mega city which is spread over a massive land of 3,500 square kilometers and holds a population of more than 20 million.
Chairman Businessmen Group and former President of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) Siraj Kassam Teli at Karachi-based diplomats meeting said, “We are not saying the entire revenue should be spent on us and we do not mind if we have to feed the entire country but Karachi city, which is the financial hub of Pakistan, deserves to be treated accordingly”.
Diplomats from United States of America, Russia, Japan, Germany, China, Indonesia, Thailand, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) attended the reception whereas MNA Dr Farooq Sattar, MQM’s Parliamentary leader in National Assembly Rasheed Godil, PPP central leader and former Minister Syed Owais Muzaffar along with provincial ministers Dr Sagheer Ahmed, Rubina Saadat Qaimkhani, Adil Siddiqui, Waqar Mehdi and Rashid Rabbani were also present on the occasion.
Karachi is not only promoting trade and businesses ties with various countries but also acknowledging the untiring efforts and relentless support being extended by Karachi-based diplomats to KCCI since 2004 when Karachi Chamber started My Karachi Oasis of Harmony Exhibition.
He recalled law and order situation along with perception about Karachi city was terrible when KCCI came up with a unique idea of organising My Karachi-Oasis of Harmony Exhibition in 2004 in order to promote the positive image of Karachi city and counter all the negative reports of western media.
Regularly staging My Karachi Exhibition every year and ensuring maximum foreign participation since 2004, KCCI has succeeded in telling the whole world law and order situation was not as worse, as being portrayed by the media and Karachi was a peaceful and investment friendly city.
KCCI is all set to stage the 11th sequel of My Karachi exhibition from June 20-22, 2014 at Karachi Expo Centre with same zeal and enthusiasm.
He requested Karachi-based diplomats to assist KCCI in effectively promoting this exhibition so that maximum foreign participation could be ensured.
Vice Chairman BMG Zubair Motiwala and Anjum Nisar urged the diplomats to help KCCI in effectively conveying the message to the rest of the world that Karachi city was a peaceful, investment and business friendly city.
President KCCI Abdullah Zaki stressed the need to simplify the complex visa procedures while efforts should be made to deal with unnecessary delays and rising number of visa rejections even to some of the most prominent businessmen.
KCCI hoped these issues might soon be resolved according to the aspirations of the business community.
