Ministry of Law has issued notification for the appointment of Justice Umar Ata Bandial as Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP).

According to the notification, Justice Umar Ata Bandial is the most senior judge of the Pakistan Supreme Court. The ministry has issued notification after the approval of President Arif Alvi.

Justice Bandial will take oath as the new CJP on February 2, 2022, succeeding the current CJP Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed after his retirement on February 1.

The appointment of Justice Umar Atta Bandial will be effective from February 2, 2022.

Earlier, President Dr. Arif Alvi had appointed Justice Umar Atta Bandial as the Chief Justice of Pakistan. The President made the appointment under article 175 of the constitution.

We need bold, visionary, even crazy people who shake the system, hold ALL institutions (including their own and the army) ruthlessly accountable, take aggressive suo moto notices against corruption and nepotism in government and by politicians, etc.

yeeeeah, no. none of the past CJs did anything to set their own house in order. nothing has been to ensure accountability of judiciary.

I guess Isa will be that X factor that Pakistan has needed for a very long time. I am not aware of the incoming CJ but have heard that he has been a 'Yes Man' to the CJ which may not be a strong suit. But it yet remains to be seen how his brief tenure will be.

Additionally, it makes me wonder why it is ok for the senior most Judge of the Supreme Court to be elevated to CJ but the same is not valid for senior most judges of High Courts to be appointed as Justices of the Supreme Court. The case of nominated Judge Ayesha Malik is a prime example; why was she proposed by the CJ, I mean whatever was the criteria in his mind and process of nomination, through which many of the Judges senior to her were ignored.

All of these pakistani high court judges , lawyers,generals,police officers and politicians are of the same race aka far and alien to 98 % of their subjects. Nothing is going to change in this set up, pakistan need theocracy which is governed by Gods Law ( the supremE law ) . Western system is not the cure for the ilness of paksitani society where there is such class divide/ segregation and any sharabis cleanshave "educated " wadera, elite,chaudary ,politician can get away with rape or even murder . Most of these higher up are for sale , some for money for their daughters/wifes ngo, some for their family visa and some for their post retirement job in western countries. Only ulemas and ppl who are religiously inclined , are trustworthy in pakistan because of their ideology! i hope someone comes and take care of these currupt cleanshave "educated" lots ruling the nations .
