Jordan to hire over 12,000 RMG workers from Bangladesh

Local market most probably. Not sure they export the amount we or even turkey exports. I wouldn’t send workforce much needed here. There’s no respect in Arab countries unless someone is educated and has clout

hi,
in the photo the garment workers all seem to be women. Foreign men are treated terribly by Arabs, think what they will do to the women. Arab name to me says the Arabs are actually the Barbary pirates and slavers.

Jordan exports a lot of RMG.

But why should the govt. export labor to Jordan, when the Jordanians intend to pay the workers as little as possible to keep the biggest portion for themselves? Probably at or even lower than local rates in Bangladesh.

The question does arise on why we should help Jordanian businesses corner an export market, when we can let Bangladeshi RMG businesses set up shop in Jordan and take advantage of their quota?? AND employ Bangladeshi workers to boot. Otherwise no deal...

Hopefully we can do both and have a win-win situation between two brotherly nations.

This Momen guy does not think like sharp business people, neither does Hasina...such clueless folks.

I guess they are thinking, Jordan will get cheap labor anyway- be it Bangladesh or India or Nepal. So they will compete with Bangladeshi export overseas regardless. So, might as well take a small chunk out of their profit in the form of exporting labor.

No one will give experience worker there, so I would say the deal is really bad. I consider the perfec deal if Bangladesh just give them un-experience ones. The one that has already got training certificate but not yet working. They are the one who are desperate to get job to feed their family while experienced worker have already had job in their own country. After some time those worker then can get back to Bangladesh with some experience already and already skillfull.

Sexual exploitation is the same everywhere. So long there’s class difference and women are at lower financial status, they’ll sleep with men, willingly or unwillingly.

Exactly. People here often miss out how much newbies screw up in ready made garments business. Millions of apparels are rejected for petty reasons like wrong buttons, a spot or wrong dye, wrong labels etc. newbies can be sent abroad to work and when they gain experience they can come back and work in the country.

So you concur that this factory might be more than it appears?
There will always been class differences and status, even a communist state. We have the potential to stop people from starving and being homeless but not to stop people from wanting more or the best and latest thing.
Look at ABCANz, Japan, Korea and Europe. The more that is provided the more people want or are forced to have. It is the endless greed trap. It results in a kind of insanity.

Idk about the factory but I can’t guarantee the agents who’ll sell visas to people will not be doing so as a cover for human trafficking

ok. trade would mean that bangladeshi make a good in Bangladesh. Jordanians make a good in Jordan. Each sells it to the other. What is going on is actually the the trade in migrant workers. It already is kind of human trafficking.

.
Additional point

Jordan has Free trade agreements with USA and EU

I like your thinking. 8-)

Good Angle. :-)

Human Trafficking is defined as,

" Human trafficking involves the use of force, fraud, or coercion to obtain some type of labor or commercial sex act."

We're not talking sex trafficking, so just labor.

There is no force, fraud or coercion here, ergo can't be called human trafficking.
