England's Jonathan Trott and Pakistan pace bowler Wahab Riaz were involved in a confrontation before Monday's one-day international at Lord's
The incident was confirmed by David Collier, chief executive of the England and Wales Cricket Board.
"There was an altercation," he said. "It was regrettable, but it happened.
"We are very fortunate that we have the experience of a neutral man in [match referee] Jeff Crowe, who dealt with it immediately. It is a closed matter."
The incident - described as "fairly minor" by Collier - came on the day England captain Andrew Strauss had to deny his side had lost the third one-dayer in return for money following comments from Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ijaz Butt.
"I think feelings have been high in the last 24 hours. We don't hide behind that, though," added Collier.
"We admit that feelings were strong, so that is bound to spill over."
Riaz was last week interviewed by police as part of their inquiry into alleged spot-fixing.
