In the Paris Air show CATIC president Ma Zhiping confirms that the JF-17 will appear at Dubai air show, which runs from 13-17 November 2011.

"On the first day of Paris Air Show we have received a number of international visitors at our stand," said CATIC president Ma Zhiping.

"We've entertained customers from Africa, the Middle East and Asia. On the first day we had meetings with 10 customers. They were interested in all of our aircraft, including the JF-17."

CATIC is no newcomer to Le Bourget. It first came to Paris in 1987, and 2011 marks its twelfth appearance at the show.

Ma said CATIC had planned to have three Pakistani air force JF-17s in Paris to appear in the static area and perform flying displays. The service is the only current operator of the type. He attributed their absence to the unstable political situation in Pakistan.

Citing strong interest in the JF-17 from countries in Africa and the Middle East, he said several countries have had test flights of the low-cost aircraft. A new international buyer for the type is likely to be announced within the next two to three years.

CATIC has, meanwhile, done particularly well with its helicopters. Within the past five years it has signed 30 international contracts for military transport helicopters. Mainly these are light types such as the AC311, but the firm is seeing interest in its large AC313, which has a maximum take-off weight of 13,000kg (28,630lb). Ma said the AC313 has proven effective at operating in high altitudes up to 18,000ft (5,500m), and has received interest from Asian countries.
Separately, deliveries of eight Shaanxi Y-8 transport aircraft to Venezuela will start in 2012 following its signature of a 2010 deal with CATIC.

CATIC President Ma Zhiping speaking from the Paris Air show has said several countries have test flown JF-17 fighter plane. African and Middle Eastern countries have shown strong interest in the aircraft. Sales outside Pakistan are likely in next two-three years.

Jf-17 thunder is a low cost multi-role fighter jet jointly developed by Pakistan and China. It is currently operated by Pakistan Airforce. Currently, two squadrons have been deployed. Pakistan is expected to have over 90 thunders by the end of 2011. Pakistan is also co-producing the aircraft in its developing aviation industry.

Pakistan and China have also signed Memorandum of Understanding to develop stealthy version of air combat plane.

ISLAMABAD Pakistan is looking for buyers for the JF-17 Thunder multi-role fighter jets it has co-produced with China.

An official told Dawn on Saturday that funds generated through the sale of the combat aircraft would be used in efforts to modernise Pakistan Air Force which was already emerging as a potent outfit with the recent induction of force multipliers.

He said that besides Turkey, some countries of the Middle East and Africa were taking keen interest in acquisition of the aircraft.

He said that two JF-17 Thunder aircraft of the PAF, manufactured at the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex, Kamra, had flown to the United Kingdom to participate in the forthcoming Farnborough Air Show 2010, scheduled to be held between July 19 and 25.

The JF-17 Thunder is an all-weather and multi-role combat aircraft that has potential to be the mainstay of any modern air force.

The sources said the serial production of JF-17 Thunder had already started and ultimately some 250 aircraft would be inducted in the fighter fleet of the PAF.

The first squadron of JF-17 has already joined the fighter fleet and the second squadron will be inducted by the end of the year.

They said the PAF had invested in the force multipliers like air-to-air refuellers, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft to enhance its capacity and capability to undertake complex operations.

He said that efforts to enhance capacity of the PAF would continue in the wake of growing importance of air power which played a vital and decisive role in war situations.

The source observed that participants of the Farnborough Air Show would prove to be a good forum for interacting with people interested in JF-17 Thunder and booking orders for supply of the potent combat aircraft.

The Farnborough International Airshow (FIA) is one of the world`s most iconic global aviation events.

FIA holds a prominent position in the aerospace calendar taking place on a biennial basis (once every two years) over one week in July.

The first five days of the show are traditionally trade days only, followed by a weekend where the exhibition is opened up to the public.

The most recent airshow, FIA 2008, was a record-breaking year for business with $88.7 billion worth of orders announced during the show.

The 2008`s event featured 165 aircraft in static displays and spectacular flying displays and the public weekend attracted a staggering 153,000 visitors. The upcoming Farnborough International Airshow is certain to be the most exciting to date.

With its existing exhibition halls, flying displays and UAV pavilion, FIA 2010 will evolve its business theme to include a number of new networking initiatives such as a themed conference and seminar programme, a `meet your buyer` event and a day dedicated to the International Futures for Youth.

Additionally, FIA 2010 will feature a dedicated `Space Zone` and enhanced UAV presence.

November’s Dubai Airshow is showcasing the development of the aerospace industry in the United Arab Emirates as the country celebrates its 40th anniversary just two weeks later on 2 December 2011.

Running from 13 to 17 November 2011 at the city’s Airport Expo, the Dubai Airshow is the foremost aerospace event in the Middle East and the fastest growing in the world.



With just six months to go, the next edition of the Dubai Airshow is set to be the biggest yet, with up to 1,000 exhibitors expected from 50 countries, which will attract over 55,000 trade visitors.



The very first Dubai Airshow in 1989 presented 200 exhibitors, five percent of which were from the UAE. Of the 1,000 companies exhibiting at this November’s show, 35 percent will be UAE-based exhibitors from all sectors of the aerospace industry.



Alison Weller, Managing Director of Dubai Airshow organiser, F&E Aerospace, said: “The accelerated growth of the aerospace industry in the UAE can be attributed to the vision of the country’s rulers who understood that a vibrant transportation industry, with ease of access for people and freight, is one of the essential building blocks of a nation.



“In tribute to the success of the UAE’s aerospace industry, we are showcasing the companies which, through their hard work and commitment, have contributed to the development and sustained growth of the aerospace industry in the UAE over the past 40 years.”



One such success story is Mubadala which, in its nine years since launch, has invested in aircraft manufacturing (PiaggioAero SpA), composites aerostructures manufacturing (STRATA) aviation training (Horizon International Flight Academy), and maintenance (Abu Dhabi Aircraft Technologies), in pursuit of its aim of becoming a global aerospace hub.



Dubai International Airport celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2010 and that same year was ranked fourth globally for international passengers by Airport Council International (ACI).



Dubai International is the hub for the Emirates Group, including Emirates Airline and Dnata, the travel services company, which recently posted its 23rd consecutive year of profit, totalling US$1.6 billion.

The Dubai Airshow is organised under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President & Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and in association with Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Dubai Airports and the UAE Armed Forces.

In four decades, the United Arab Emirates has emerged from a forgotten corner of Arabia to become one of the world's most powerful small nations. This year's Dubai air show, being held from 13-17 November, will celebrate the 40th anniversary of a country that has become a force in global aviation.
The company behind the biennial event - Fairs & Exhibitions - is also confident of breaking the 1,000-exhibitor milestone for the first time. "Last time, we had 890, but we have been growing at around 10% a year, so we think that figure is within our reach," said F&E managing director Alison Weller.
The show will highlight the spectacular growth of the UAE's aviation sector, which includes flag-carriers Emirates and Etihad, and Dubai International, now one of the world's busiest airports.
"We will be joining in the celebration to show what's been achieved," said Weller.
Also new for 2011 are two initiatives that focus on the need in the UAE and the wider region to recruit and train local citizens for careers in the industry.
The Gulf Aviation Training Event will give airlines and training providers a chance to discuss the various challenges around bringing a new generation of pilots, engineers and other professionals into the sector, while a futures day will involve schools and colleges bringing students to the show in an attempt to interest them in aviation.
Weller is also confident of some headline deals. "We think Emirates may well have some orders to announce, and possibly Qatar Airways too," she said. "On the military side, there are a lot of RFPs [request for proposals] being issued, and the show starts on the last day of the Abu Dhabi Formula 1, which could attract some of the business aviation community."

actually dubai airshow would be much more better for us as almost all the interested customers for thunder will be present there. dubai airshow is mostly aimed at those potential buyers from middle eastern and african countries.
so it would be good chance for thunder to find its second customer!
