The JF-17 Thunder fighter jets of the Pakistan Pakistan Air Force have for the first time participated in squadron level exercise which included the use of live ammunition. The JF-17 Thunder has been developed by jointly developed by the Pakistan aeronautical complex and Chengdu Aircraft Industries Corporation (CAC).

Around 40 Thunders from the No. 16 Squadron 'Black Panthers' and No. 26 Squadron 'Black Spiders' of the Pakistan Air Force participated form PAF Minhas Airbase (Kamra Airbase) and PAF Airbase PAF Base Peshawar.

The JF-17 is capable of carrying NESCOM's 120 km range H-4 precision guided weapon, Brazilian MAR-1 Anti-Radiation air-to-surface missile, Chinese PL-12/SD-10A Beyond Visual Range Air to Air Missile (BVRAAM), PL-5E II/PL-9C Within Visual Range Air-to-Air Missile (WVRAAM), LeiShi-6 (LS-6) Satellite Aided Inertially Guided Bomb, LT-2/LS-500J Laser Guided Bomb and LT-3 Laser / Satellite Aided Inertially Guided Bomb and C-802A Anti-ship Missile.

Actually JF-17 had performed Ground attacks in HighMark 2010.....I am not sure if this video has been already posten in PDF's JF-17 Sticky thread..But here it is again..A poorly made video,you can hardly see whats happening...But anyway...Look after 2:10 and you can see JF-17s Dropping Bombs on Ground targets...

Excellent news. I would love to see a Leaner and Meaner version of JF 17 ( Block 3 ) with a more powerful engine and Composite Material Airframe and more destructive Payload. This aircraft is designed for our budget and we should maximise its lethality.

A year ago the Pakistani army began a military process against taliban, I've thought we going to see the jf-17 thundering in the sky but what a fail???!!! now I read that thunder just start working??? why it took them all that long.

Taliban and Terrorist warfare of Pakistan is far more complicated than any of us can comprehend..
It cannot be won by Carpet bombing like the Amricans tried and failed in Afghanistan...Sending JF-17s to kill some yaboos up in the mountains wont do anything...

i believe this is the first time live guided ammunitions r used in an EXERCISE other than testing .because last i remember jf dumped a few bombs in himarks. also we can see sd10s that meand live rounds used avainst bvr targets. awsome

I am wondering how they test air to air missiles. Does they kill old F6 and F7s from Jf17 just to test air to air missiles?? Using live ammunition from from air to ground target is understandable but don't know How the world test live air to air missiles.

for WVR they use flares to target but for BVE i guss target drones or ballones or chutes with metal to reflect on them.
