Price increase from $15m each to $25m each is huge 60% increase between version 1 and 2

Surely the improvements have to much more than the following

Block 2 jets come with air-to-air refuelling capability, improved avionics, enhanced load carrying capacity, better weapon carriage and enhanced data link and electronic warfare capabilities.

Can somebody confirm what is the improved avionics eg is it a new radar
Most of the improvements seem cockpit related rather than airframe or engine and thus 60% is a huge cost increase if just cockpit.

are we talking pesa radar etc.

exact details are not yet known, most is avionics, IFR, ew, more weapon integration and software enhancements, and some other improvements. We dont know yet whether there is an airframe improvement or not but it seems unlikely, there will be no PESA, only AESA.

That is not the curious thing. Why the hell would he just conclude out of thin air that its only cockpit refinements?

Oscar for me Thunder cab potentialy be improved significantly in itys airframe & flight control. and ultimately a new engine to avoid russian reliance.

But from what i read their is no mention if more composites or a unstable FCS like the new 4th generation fighters globally.

PS i am not saying thunder is bad but a neutral eye looking at potential improvements include the above not just

I think most of 60% price hike can be attributed to "some other improvents" which are not required to be made public.

The first fully upgraded block 2 (former block 1) will be flying around end of March 2014.

JF-17 always uses a smaller version of J-10's radar. J-10B has AESA, so I'm 99% sure JF-17 Block 2 also has AESA. Nose mounted IRST is also virtually guaranteed in Block 2.

Price increase is not just because of added equipment, you also have to look at the inflation. 4-5 years ago when the contract was signed for the 1st batch, rupee was in a better condition than today.

I really hope the cost upgrade is for adding an AESA radar. That's the only thing missing from the JF-17's capabilities.
