Japanese soccer club fined over racism | SBS News

The Japan Professional Football League said on Friday it had decided to fine Yokohama F Marinos five million yen ($A52,150) over racist behaviour by one of their supporters.

Yokohama banned the teenager indefinitely soon after he waved a banana towards a Brazilian player in the match against Kawasaki Frontale on August 23.

Yokohama said the fan admitted his behaviour towards Kawasaki's attacker Renato was an "act of provocation" during the 2-0 win.

The incident came about five months after the J-League forced Urawa Reds to hold a game behind closed doors as a penalty for their supporters displaying a racist banner at a stadium entrance, which was not removed until after the March 8 home game.

heh, this isn't uncommon in football though right o_O

.
I don't know what is problem with FIFA they are over doing the whole banana thing fans can intimidate the opposing player as long as they don't use a forbidden word

Nothing racist about a bannana

Potassium is good for Muscles and Soccer fitness , the player must have been weak

Let's analyze this from the Jurisprudential point of view, shall we? The fact that the Japan Professional Football League decided to fine Yokohama F Marinos for some questionable action(s) of some fans is indicative of a healthy introspection. This way, it reminds teams as well as fans to mind their manners.

I'm in no way excusing such racist actions because it is inherently wrong. Period. And I hope that the fine and dissemination of knowledge on the lack of ethicality of such actions is not conducive to inter-cultural exchanges with other nationalities. It reflects unkindly on overall Japanese population and begets false assumptions. Some European teams should learn from us.

So I'm glad the JPFL intervened.
