Senior lawmakers from Japan and South Korea will meet in Tokyo on July 17 and 18, said a group of Japanese lawmakers trying to improve bilateral relations.
Members of the Japanese group and its South Korean counterpart will discuss details of a joint general meeting scheduled to take place in Seoul this year. Last year’s general meeting was held in Tokyo.
At a meeting of the Japanese group Monday, former Finance Minister Fukushiro Nukaga said lawmakers should press the two countries’ leaders to hold talks as early as possible.
The situation in which Japanese and South Korean leaders find it difficult to hold a summit meeting needs to be rectified, Nukaga said.
