Nah there is many way to unroot US-Japanese alliance, there is no permanent friend only permanent interest. China has nothing to lose on both scenario:

1-If Japan wants to remain US's lapdog and let let US dictate it term over Japanese future, it's nor really our problem, in fact we're glad that US will keep Japanese ambition in check by control them, a loose mad dog can be a threat to Asia as in WWII

or

2- If Japan choose to be independent from US and be neutral, China and Russia will likely have more security cooperation with Japan and restore Japan dignity as a free nation and be master of itself, as consequence US will have no place in Asia and less threat to China & Russia.

And you know why Japanese were so scare when High level military talk between US and China, they're afraid that
China and US is collude at Japan expanse, most likely US knew Japan is not so reliable alliance after got nuked by US and Japanese will seek revenge in event of their independent so by cooperating with China US will gain China's support to let US keep continuing control of Japan.

Diaoyu Island can be settle peacefully or by war all depend on Japanese attitude and relation China, we're not losing our sleep about it, and now China become stronger and stronger with bigger military defense budge, this island will likely settle in our favor, time is on our side.

Of course Japan as a "lapdog" as you describe has democratic function with direct vote, more freedom of speech, the right to rally, free internet, and more freedom of religion. Compare that to Tibet. "Lapdog" implies having no control whatsoever and it implies no genuine interest from the Japanese side on Senkaku islands, Taiwan, and the South China Sea. Reality is that Japanese interest and US interest in these matters align. Both have interest to see Taiwan protected, to see free and open passage through the SCS. US doesn't care so much for Senkaku islands in all honesty but will put its geopolitical weight in Japan's favor for the purpose of supporting an ally that does share same interest in other areas.

Fear of revenge because of nukes? US side has been willing to back Japan having its own nukes for some time now. If Japan took the path to deploy nuclear ballistic missiles, there would be little resistance from the US side.

But now you are saying Japan is like a loose mad dog which is better that the US keeps Japan pinned down, which goes contrary to your first "lapdog" perspective. But then yet again you go contrary to that by implying it would be better that Japan should want to strive to be independent (in comparison to the premise of "lapdag").

If you don't explicitly say that China should give up the 9 dash line, give up claim on the Senkaku islands, and give up the support for unification of PRC and ROC(or ROT) in order to get trust from Japan, then you are wasting you breath.
