TOKYO: Japan will not join the United States, Britain and others in issuing a statement scolding China for imposing a new security law, Kyodo news agency reported on Sunday (Jun 7), citing officials from countries involved.

The United Kingdom, the US, Australia and Canada condemned China on May 28 for imposing a law that they said would threaten freedom and breach a 1984 Sino-British agreement on the autonomy of the former colony.

There was no immediate response to Reuters' email inquiries to Japan's foreign ministry and the US embassy in Tokyo. China's foreign ministry did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Tokyo separately issued a statement on May 28, the day China's parliament approved the national security legislation, saying the nation was "seriously concerned" about the move, which observers fear could endanger Hong Kong's special autonomy and freedoms.

Tokyo is in a complicated position amid tension between China and the US over the Hong Kong issue as Japan plans Chinese President Xi Jinping's state visit, which was scheduled for early April but has been postponed because both leaders have agreed to prioritise containing the COVID-19 outbreak.

@Suika

What happened to your mighty prediction? :enjoy:

Mighty prediction? Well.. there are many points in which Hong Kong is just one. Agnes Chow is quite a young lady so I hate to see her efforts to draw Japanese support fall short. But Japan's position isn't as strong as the US's or UK's regarding HK. Although I always wondered why HK democracy flag is black. Why did they pick black. Also I always thought the semi big white statue to represent HK protests efforts being a direct shape of a protester to have been kind of bland. Something more aesthitic with symbolic items to represent their ideas and struggles would have been more appealing. Well to me at least.

But a Xi visit hasn't been decided on yet. Besides HK, other areas include RIMPAC which will be in Auguest. It'll coincide when both of the PLAN carriers do a photo op together. ROK is sending a large destroyer and a small destroyer to RIMPAC. Still yet to be seen what JMSDF decides to send over.

Another point is the QUAD in which India and Australia just concluded a military logistic exchange agreement and India stated their openess to Australia joining the Malabar exercise.

One other point. The high speed rail deal China won over Japan in Indonesia looks to be stuck in limbo for 3 years now and now Indonesia seems to be calling Japan for the project.

Presently, a popular menu on JS Akizuki appears to be a Taiwanese noodle dish.

Lol... Self delusion. You haven't answer me why Japan didn't step a foot in HK issue if Japan is so anti China? It is a golden opportunity according to your brilliant analysis about Japan hate China to core.

Obviously you know nothing about Sino- Japan r/s. I have already predicted correctly. Japanese are very pragmatic people. They do have national pride but what is more important is if you demonstrated your strength and ability. They will be subdued. Mark my words. Japan will soon join China space station and more Sino-Japan collaboration are coming ahead. Japan will too , slowly different themselves from Taiwan issue. It's a matter of time :enjoy:

Yeah yeah, like usual, Pro-CCP trolls still trying to frame me as something that I am not.

It is not a matter of Japan hating China to the core. Even with basic level difference in government style, relations could be better. The sticking points are the PRC's 9 dash line claim, claim on Taiwan, and claim on the Senkaku islands. Those claims essentially mean that Japan will continue to sail with the US Navy. That is what I have been saying. Other problem points such as HK, Tibet, Xinjiang, China Firewall, Falun Gong, and so on pile on top of those key geopolitical issues. With the Senkaku islands, one could say that China has learned to exists with them being in Japan's territory since China also wants to improve relations with Japan now even though in 2012, China was adamant about the nationalization of the islands. Not so much anymore. Of course China can raise the issue on the Senkaku islands to higher levels at anytime I think, too which, if they do that, then Japanese companies further withdraw from the PRC again like in 2012 with the anti-japan demos.

As usual of personal attack after humiliate by me. How am I a troll when my prediction and point is slowly reveal in reality? While for you, you are more of a troll with your childish hated fantasy which u keep promoting against China.

Maybe you want to save face once again claim Japan has some great scheme behind the scene to destroy China by acting pragmatic pleasing China now.

Japan isn't so much against China, as it is in favor of its own territorial rights in the East China Sea.

Further, there is an undercurrent of anger against American policies and mistreatment of locals in Okinawa. I mean, you don't have to be a genius to realize that a North Korean missile flying over Japan, because of US warmongering, is a real problem.

I think you will even see South Korea moderating its antagonism against China.

The only outlier is Taiwan. China needs to do something about it.

President Xi will be visiting Japan soon.
Would Abe jeapardized this golden opportunity for Japan National Security for a nation he could not says he do not trust?
USA may be threatening it but if Abe can secured a peace andnsecurity agreement with China, who needs USA anyway? :coffee:

I called you a troll because you should remember that I have always emphasized on the 9 dash line, Taiwan, and the Senkaku islands whenever the topic of current Japanese geopolitical topic comes up. To sum it all up as just me saying "Japan should alwsys hate China to the core" is a misrepresentation of what I have been saying.

But maybe you just have bad memory :-)

The 9 dash line is also a big matter, along with the Senkaku islands.

However if the PRC gives up its claim on Taiwan, that would immensely improve PRC-Japan relations.

. .
Why does Japan care so much about Taiwan?

Should it not be the business of Chinese in both countries?

If Taiwan falls under PRC territory, then the PRC gains too much military leverage in the whole region.

Taiwanese like Japan a lot. Both Taiwan and Japan are like-minded democracies. Japan should aid countries that it has good relations with. If Taiwan doesn't want to be part of the PRC, then Japan will support Taiwan.

Taiwan is not an internal China matter. That is PRC propaganda. Chiang Kai-shek was granted the island of formosa as prize for defeat and break up of the Japanese empire. When Formosa was part of Qing, that was like how India was part of the British empire, or how Indonesia was part of the Dutch empire. The island of Formosa did not share in the long ancient of China. The rule by Qing were not good years. Years when part of Imperial Japan were better even. To say that Taiwan belongs to the PRC is the like saying India belongs to the British empire.

LOL... Japan now still recognize one China policy. Can you tell me when they will change this stance?
You are a incorrigible liar. Just a sourgraped white man jealous of rising China. :enjoy:

CCP cares a lot about image. So they are willing to bend if they get image.

In practicality Taiwan is an independent sovereign nation which is not of any China.

Bro, you waste so much time on that fake Japanese.

Temple in Taiwan enshrined a Japanese WW2 pilot.
