the-number-of-vietnamese-students-is-the-second-largest-among-the-international-students-studying-in-japan-according-to-the-latest-statistics-from-the-japan-student-services-organisation-p-1642323-web.jpg

There were 38,882 Vietnamese students in Japan as of May last year, an increase of 47.1 percent from the year before, Vietnam News Agency reported Wednesday, citing figures released by a Japanese educational organization.

It was higher than the 29,000 studying in the US, which had been Vietnamese students' top destination until March, according to an official at the Vietnamese embassy in Tokyo.

Vietnam is now Japan's second biggest source of students after China, which had 94,111 students, a number that remained unchanged since 2014.

As more and more Japanese businesses are entering Vietnam, Vietnamese interest in Japan is increasing accordingly, a Japanese educational official told the news agency.

The increased interest is also reflected in the fact that several elementary schools in Vietnam have started teaching Japanese, according to the official.

More than 110,000 Vietnamese students study in 47 countries around the world, spending an estimated US$3 billion a year, according to figures released at the end of last year by an education and training working group of the Vietnam Business Forum.

This year one niece and one nephew of mine go to Japan for studying.

I have foreseen this trend. Sooner or later China will surpass the US as the next favorite destination.

The quality of graduate from Anglo Saxon countries, like the US or Australia, after coming back to Vietnam, leave a lot to be desired. Aside from good English skill, a required qualification to be office staff in Western companies, they are hard to be succesful in Vietnamese environment. I think there is the same situation in China.

All self made billionaires or successful startup in Vietnam are either graduates from Vietnamese universities (typically Hanoi university of science and Technology) or east european, mostly from the former Soviet Union, despite of huge numbers of graduates from the US or Australia in VN now. With all the hypes from media about education quality of Western countries, their real quality are doubtful.

well, I can tell you, studying in europe has some geat benefits. for example, if you get a master degree at a german university, your degree will be also recognised in France, England, Spain and many other countries in the world, meaning you have access not only to the german labor market, but virtually all European countries, because the countries recognise higher education degrees mutually.

I agree with you, Viet. But i am talking about the real quality. Nowadays, it seems that everyone in Vietnam, who have enough to pay, can easily get a degree from the US, Australia or Europe. Therefore, the quality is going down. In 1980s, Vietnamse Intelligensia joked that even sending a 4th grade pupil to east europe, he would get a Ph.D degree.

Why are the words in the blackboard written in Chinese?

Japanese and Vietnamese learn Kanji at the same time , this is the most ludicrous irony on earth, Vietnamese tried to move themselves away from using their ancestor writing (Hanzi) and by learning Japanese, they will have to learn the fundamental Hanzi:p:.

Japanese are smart, by keeping Kanji, they will keep themselves in touch with 1.4 billions Chinese, they will have a better accessibly into Chinese's realm and not hit by language barrier despite the fact the China-Japan relation is not good.

I think i can master Chinese within 6 months. For lower educated Vietnamese people, like labourer, 1 year is more than enough. But I doubt Japanese can learn Chinese in one year. Despite similar writting, the two languages are totally different, but Vietnamese can be seen as a Chinese dialect with Mon Khmer root. (I have learned in different levels both Chinese and Jap)

Maybe you can but I highly doubt other Vietnamese can do the same such @Viva_Viet . Japanese might not able to speak fluently Chinese but they are able to read and understand the essence and the meaning of Chinese characters without having to go to Chinese school. Any Japanese can to enter into Chinese's internet realm (400 millions users)and understand more/less of what we're writing, I doubt Vietnamese can do that.

Chinese kid learn English for better future, American kid didn't learn Chinese because they don't see the future: learn an extra language is always as PLUS for yourself, Americans will gradually swallowed by their ego.
