What I don't understand is that these two nations were defeated and destroyed after World War 2 by the "Allied Powers".

Yet, Japan's technologies is far ahead from everyone and especially with no natural resources, 80% of the Japanese land consists of mountains and scattered islands, Japan's geographical location makes it prone to volcanoes and earthquakes and emerged from a destructive World War less than 70 years ago.

And Germany today has the strongest economics in Europe.

Can someone elaborate why the "Allied Powers" succeeded against these two yet still behind from them?

The Allies won the War. But the Axis* won the Peace.

* Of course the Italians don't count.

Erm, what give you the impression that Japanese or German technology is ahead everyone? While it is true that Japan and Germany are technologically advanced in many fields, they fall short in others. For example, Germans are renowned manufacturer of heavy industrial equipments, but their silicon and semiconductor technology is nothing to write home about. Japan has good automobile industry, but their aero-space sector is very limited. Basically, post WWII there existed two and a half countries that actually have complete industry base. The ones existed today are China and US. USSR counted as half because it relied on its network of subordinates for light industry.

Now, don't get me wrong, German and Japanese economies are pretty good comparing to most of the nations. One of the core reasons is that both countries have a huge population (10th and 16th largest country in the world by population) and good education/infrastructure to utilize that population. The only countries in the world have more population than them and comparable infrastructure are China, US and pre-dissolution USSR. Incidentally, these three countries are also the ones with complete industrial base I mentioned above. The reason these countries stands above Japan and Germany is because in additional to population, infrastructure and education, they also have huge territory and powerful military to boot.

The cold war escalated between America and USSR and it helped both West Germany and Japan to recover from the defeat and destruction in world war 2. Unlike world war 1, Germans and Japan were forced to pay for the cost of the war after world war 2.

The Allies Won over Germany due to Soviet Union pushing the germans back , if Soviets were defeated earlier, then Allies wouldn't have won nor be able to make a landing in Normandy.
The Allies Won over Japan only due to "ATOM BOMB".

The atom bomb was used because Japan offered a conditional surrender not a total surrender....even before the use of the bomb Japan had lost the war

They had lost the war but
Japan was using Kamikazes and the war was getting bloody.
USA used Atom Bomb to break the will to fight and their Emperor asked to lay down weapons,Otherwise they would have fought to death.

Japan was defeated by mid 1944. But for the Atom Bomb, they would have been exterminated.
