The ambulance left Dhaka Central Jail after 11:30pm on Saturday.
Deputy Jailer Akherul Islam Rasel was with the body.
Kamaruzzaman was hanged for his atrocities ‘worse than Nazis’ (Language of verdict) during the Liberation War after 10pm.
Earlier, Chawkbazar Police Station OC Azizul Haque told reporters at the jail gates that nine cars of RAB and police would escort the ambulance to Kamaruzzaman's village.
Kamaruzzaman’s brother Kafil Uddin discussed with the district administration his burial at a place adjacent to the graveyard beside an orphanage.
He said his brother had the wish to be laid to rest there.
Sherpur Sadar Police Station OC Mazharul Karim told bdnews24.com that the work to dig the grave started around 10:30pm.
Cable TV connection in the area remained snapped since the evening.
Police personnel were deployed there too.
Kamaruzzaman had been living at Journalists’ Colony in Dhaka’s Mirpur with his wife, five sons and a daughter.
Work to ready the place in Sherpur for the burial started on Wednesday afternoon.
Bricks and sand were brought there to make the grave.
The freedom fighters of the area had earlier announced they would not allow his body to be buried in the district.
They included Kamaruzzaman’s brother-in-law.
